Can you use 85 grain bullets in the .260 for varmints?

jonbearman

I live in new york state, how unfortunate !
I cant seem to find much detail on lighter bullets for varmints like woodchucks. I have some 85 grain bullets I would like to try out of a .260 rem?

I have shot the 85 grain Sierras in both my 260 and my 6.5 Grendel.
This is the most accurate bullet that I have found for each rifle.
If I planned on really long shots I might look for one with a higher B/C but for 100-200 yards, this one does it for me.

Sent you a PM. I use the 85 gr Varminter in a 6.5 x 47 Lapua. I did have a couple of kills at 550 - 600 yds this year.
Good luck
Bob

I have used the 100 gr Sierra HP in my 6.5X55 on ground hogs and it is WICKED on them. It red mist them and scatters pieces. I was running them right at 3200 fps.

Jonbearman , I shoot 90 per cent 85 grain Sierra HP'S out of my .260 for Giant Mice . Barrel is 1:8 26".
I can load anywhere from 40-42 grains ADI2208 ( H4350 ) I have recently split the diff to 41.5 grains.

regards
Mike.
