can someone recommend a good load for 308 165 g. speer flat base hot core.

I have a 1x10 twist remington 308 that I shoot well out to 300 with target loads using bullets like 168g Hornady amax and 175smk. Ive decided to hunt white tail this year and at a local gun show came across a good deal on 165g flat base sp speer bullets. My gun has 2 nodes with 165 and 175. My lighter load is around 2350fps and hotter load is 2600. The absolute furthest shot I would have to make would b 250 yards. Most likely closer to 100. I have had success with r-15 and imr4064. I know I have to try loads to see what the gun likes best but is there a recipe that works in everything like the fed gold match 168? Thanks ahead of time, nick.

IMHO start with 41gr of either powder mentioned. I use 41 of either on 165 gk, 168 amax, or 168 hybrids and all are very accurate from my M1a or M1 garand (.308).

I have had really fine accuracy using r-15 at 42.5 grains. You will still have to try the powder at this weight and work up in small increments to see what your gun will tolerate.You can go to 47.0 but it is compressed and in my opinion way too hot for any rifle.The 165 hornady spire points are very good hunting bulets with very fine accuracy but I feel the speers should do really fine as well.Other powders too lokk at are AA2520,XMR8208,AA2460,and dont forget WW748 is a great powder.None of the powders listed except for 8208 and re-15 are as stable as the alliant and imr powders I have listed. In another words if you test at 50 degrees you will have higher pressures as the temp goes up.Keep it in mind and dont load hot as it isnt necessary to kill deer.

my go to load for 168gr.amax is 42.5 gr rl-15 .01 off the lands has worked in 3 308's so far
