I bought this without seeing it. Someone told me it was to help hold zero. Does that mean it had a problem holding zero or precaution. I never seen this and my other sightrons never had any plastic screws or problems ......It is sigtron 36x

It is a modification to help hold zero. They were pretty common quite awhile back. You loosen them to adjust the turrets then snug them back up. When the March finally came along it killed most of the zero holding mods out there at least as far as benchest goes.

Oh wow I started turning the turrets to check it I noticed the turrets was lil tight. I did not loosen those screws you think I messed it up

The crosshair looks fine but not knowing what they was I turned the turrets all the way down and up checking them. It was tight going down. But now that I know what they are when I back them out little they turn luke they should. Sorry to ask so many questions

Is the one of the set screws directly on the bottom? Looks like it would take some very tall rings if so.

This scope is a specialized item for short range group benchrest. The modification was probably done by Ron Hoehn. One year, long ago all of the members of the US teams that went to the World Benchrest Championship shot those scopes with that modification. The set screw on the bottom is not really a problem because competitors use very tall rings in that sport, which makes for a more upright position at the bench which is better for observing flags. Also, in many cases, they want to minimize their contact with the comb of the stock. Here is video I took back in 2017 at a match in Visalia, CA. Note the scope heights.

I've had a couple of those Sightrons with that modification. You can take the nylon screws out if you like and use the w/e adjustments normally. Close the holes with a shorter nylon screw or seal them with a dab of RTV.
