Can my Ballistic Numbers be Correct...?

I went to Vortec's Website, which I love to get my numbers... here is their link....

http://apps.vortexoptics.com/lrbc/#?basic_id=19558

I looked up the numbers on my three coyote rifles, and this is what I found out... but can it really be that the .224 55gr BlitzKings has that much difference than the other ones...?

All three calibers were zeroed at 300yds..same 10 mph, 3-oclock wind...same weather conditions and tempts.

20-250AI,,, 55 gr Bergers... 3770 fps...

Shown in inches.

....................drop........... wind.....

600yds..=.....34.87...........22.90
800yds..=.....91.11...........45.03
1000yds..=....185.42.........78.34

.22-243AI.... 80gr Amax.....3558 fps

..............drop........... wind.....

600....37.94........22.40
800....97.94........43.55
1000.....197.62.....74.86

22-250.... 55 gr Blitz...... 3800 fps

...........drop........... wind.....

600....51.03....44.84
800.....140.99....93.51
1000....312.13....165.88

Daniel,

Yes it can. The 55gr Blitzking BC is only around .260 G1 where as the 80gr Amax is .445 G1. Not to mention the 55gr Blitzking would probably run out of steam around 600yds or so.

I expected the 80amax to do a lot better... but it's hard to believe that a 55gr, 20 caliber bullet can do so much better than a 55 gr 22 caliber bullet... that just doesn't seem possible that it would make that much difference.

Its a longer skinnier bullet with same weight. Look at the different in BC between the 7mm 175gr SMK and the 30cal 175gr SMK for a similar comparion.

Berger 55gr 20cal BC is G1 .354 compared to the 55gr Blitzkings .260 approx and fired as similar MV.

I can believe that there us a huge difference in the 55 and 80 grain 224s, no experience with the 20 to compare it.

I see two fairly significant mistakes:

1) Your calculation on the 55 grain .20 cal Berger uses an earlier published BC that has since been revised downward 7% to 0.182 (G7 BC). Correct this calculation, and you will see a bigger wind drift and more drop.

2) Your calculation for the 55 grain .224 Blitzking uses the published BC for the 55 grain Blitz, which is a different bullet (no plastic tip, lower BC). Correct this calculation, and you will see smaller wind drift and less drop.

I took another look at my BC numbers that I was using.

I used....

.195 G7 for the 20 cal 55 bergers...

.231 G7 for the 22-243 80 amaxes...

.453 G1 also for the 22-243 80 amaxes...

not sure if it matters if I use the G1 or G7 numbers...?

.249 G1 for the 22-250 55 gr Blizkings

is it still not correct....?

Update....

I ran your suggested BC numbers for the 20 cal 55 bergers.... and it does make a difference....

about 5 more inches drop and 5 more inches for drift...at 800 yds...

and about 2 inches for both at 600 yds....

thanks... Dan
