Can I use this?

I have the L shaped piece shown on the stand in this link. I got it in a neck turning tool lot I bought some time back.

Is what I have just a part of the neck sorting tool shown above , or was it sold separately ? Can the tool pictured be broken down to remove it from the stand? Can I use it without the stand, and lastly is this an acceptable method of measuring neck thickness?

Based SOLELY on the picture, you are missing the dial indicator to make it a neck sorting stand. Based SOLELY on the wording of the ad, you are missing the necessary pilots, also.

A current picture is necessary to answer the rest of your questions.

The picture is just to show what I'm inquiring about. What I'm referring to is just the L shaped silver part that sits on top of that. Not sure if it comes off that stand or not, but I don't have the stand. I have the indicator, but no pilots.

The L-shaped aluminum part can be separated from the black anodized aluminum base by removing a couple screws.

What's pictured (link) is just a sorting fixture, minus required dial indicator.

Neck-turning tooling is not shown; several companies can provide suitable items depending on your needs and budget.

I assume this stuff is a bit dated. My L shaped piece has no holes to attach it to anything, and it's a solid machined part. Perhaps the tool was first sold without a stand? I 'll post a pic of it when the host lets me. Would it be any better at measuring neck thickness than a caliper? If not, there's no sense in me buying pilots for it. I have a neck turning adjustment fixture and the correct dial for it, but my trimmer won't attach to it. Just trying to make sense of what I have here, and if it's worth adding too.

Yep, you have their early neck-turning tool (larger item at right) which with the proper mandrel and cutting tip can do a serviceable job. If you have the adjusting gauge too, so much the better!

The other item's a wall thickness fixture; stem accepts adapters for various case neck diameters, the free end fits case flash hole to keep cases centered. What you'd need would be adapter(s) and dial indicator.

Yes, I have the indicator with the little finger thingy for the adjustment fixture, and the screws to attach a trimmer to the fixture. Bummer is... I'll need to buy the newer style trimmer to use it. I have mandrels for .22 up to .338, and I'm assuming will those work with the newer style Sinclair trimmer as well.
