can i use 6BR inline bullet seating die with 6XC?

Question:

Given the dimensional similarity, apart from length of case), would it be possible to use a wilson inline 6BR seating die to seat bullets in the 6XC case?

Reason I ask is that I'm looking for this die to do double duty if possible.

I note David Tubb has in the past advertised his 6XC die set where the seater was simply a 6BR redding comp seater...

It'll work, but possibly not very well..

New 6br brass fits completely inside the Wilson die body. So when the plunger piece bottoms out against the top of the die body on completed seating, the case would freely slip back out of the die. Fire formed brass may not fit completely inside the die body so there is often a bit of wedging. I use a tweeker screwdriver to pry on the rims, and pop the cases out.
Depending on the chamber angles vs the die angles, the force needed to dislodge cases can somtimes be pretty high. Wish I had a better tool for this prying..

Anyway, a 6xc is gonna stick out a good 1/2" from the bottom of the die body. When you fully seat and the plunger piece presses against the die body, the case will try to wedge in there pretty good. Now how are you gonna get that case back out?
A screwdriver won't work here to pry it out, and I doubt you can simply pull it free with your hands.

It might work ok. Try it & let us know!

Justin,
The 6BR Wilson should work okay without any sticking since the part of the 6XC case that will be inside the die is way smaller then the 6BR case. One thing to watch out for would be neck size of the 6BR seating die. 6XC loaded neck diameter tend to run larger.

Thanks for the advice.

I'm just looking for an inline seating option for my 6XC. I note that I'm getting about .003" to .004" of loaded round runout using my threaded die and I'd like to reduce this.

I'm using Norma 1st Gen brass, with the necks turned down to .013". The brass is pretty concentric after fireforming,.001" or slightly less is not uncommon), so something weird is happening when I'm seating...

Thanks - I know about the Tubb set of dies. My preference is to use an inline hand die in an arbor press. Not really available for the 6XC unless I go a custom die.

I have used the 6mmBR and .243 win. seaters. If U have either, give em a try,it might work for you also. Roger

Thanks for the steer, I'm certainly going to give something a try - might see about the 6br die.

The main reason I want to try it is that my threaded seating die is giving me runout of .004"-.005" for my loaded rounds. My fired or FL-sized brass runout is .001" or less, so something is amiss...
