Can I trust Leupold Dual Dove mounts for a 100% hold?

No one has said yet what "IS" the best system??? I tried the Badger mounts and rings on my rifles and will NEVER go back to that system again!!

The rings ruined several nice scopes for me. When I removed the scopes I had a nice set of "Ring Marks" on my scopes. I now use the Leupold dual dovetail bases and the Burris Z rings and love them. All my rings turn in hard to the bases so I can't imagine they would cause any impact shift.

Raptor, neither could I, until it happened. Some would say bed a rail on top with JB, and use burris rings with inserts. Oh, they already did. oops

I bought this M70 stainless push feed .30-06 in 1990. Put a Leupold 3.5-10x on it with Leupold dual dovetail ring base set. At the time silver finish was not available in dual. I sent the gloss blue set out for nickle plating. This rifle shoots 1/3 MOA with Nosler 180 Ballistic Tips and 56.0 grs. IMR 4350. The rifle / scope combo has 2763 rounds of this load fired through it. It has taken four dozen head of elk, deer and antelope and been subjected to all mother nature could dish out. Just two weeks ago I fired a three shot .875 group at 350 yards with it. These mounts are solid.

Hell, I got no problem tack welding them to the base. Then I know they won't be going anywhere!! Maybe I "AM" getting a point of impact shift and all this time I just thought I was a shitty shot!! Maybe there's still hope for me!! Ha

WOW when I can take my Burris signature rings off of a EGW mount and reinstall and never have to adjust over a click or 2 it just tells me all is right. The nylon inserts have never made a ring mark on any scope. And the option of using the insets with the offset if I need it. I cant imagine why you would want to use anything else. I called Allan Hall to order rings to go on a Hall actioned rifle I have he told me he likes the Burris better than the ones he makes.

Raptor: Yes, they are great aren't they? I cannot imagine ugly damaging ring marks on my Nightforce scopes. And the off-set inserts have come to the rescue numerous times over the years.

I had a Ruger #1 re-barreled (Shilen 223, 1-9) and the gunsmith must have mounted the quarter rib slightly off-center because I quickly ran out of windage adjustment. The off-sets installed for windage correction made it a simple fix.

Not trying to be picky, just would like to keep things straight: "I now use the Leupold dual dovetail bases and the Burris Z rings". Zee signifies that the rings are for use with the Weaver/ Picatinney bases. "Signature" identifies that the rings include the nylon inserts.

So, you are using the Signature standard rings. :)

I suspect there are examples of the double dovetail scope mount system that, for whatever reason, failed to function as designed. My experience with them has been positive. I have this mount system on a rifle that consistently performs well. There is no doubt in my mind that my scope mount is sturdy and reliable. I installed the mounts myself and clearly recall the effort required to turn the rings into the bases. I had to clamp the base in a bench vise and lean on the Leupold ring wrench to turn the ring into place. This process took a little trial and error to get the rings lined up properly, but the point is the rings locked into the bases solid, and I am convinced it would take an awful lot of force to make them move.

I have several of the redfield/leupold style front dovetail, rear windage screws base and ring sets laying in my tool box, since I changed all my CF rifles to the picatiny style a few years ago. I thought I would get some use out of them by using them (redfield style) on my 10/22 (22lr), but after reading this thread I'm not even gonna use them for that. I haven't tried the signature zee rings yet but based on all the good reports on this site I will soon.

...........and another thing. ;D

I have been using Leupold std. and dual mounts on my silhouette competition rifles for 30 years with complete satisfaction. This sport requires accurate rifles and optics capable of repeatable performance. Leupold delivers for me. I never have to worry about their mounts giving me trouble. I won AAA class hunter rifle silhouette at the AZ state match last weekend with the center rifle. M700 7-08, Douglas barrel, 25X Leupold in std. rings. Hey fdshuster, that 6.5-20X I bought from you last year is on that top rifle. :)

The four groundhogs I shot on Saturday with my 223 never noticed my Leupold Dove tailed mounts. :) :)

Just adding some levity to the discussion.
