Oh also, I shoot off a bald eagle rest from the benches. Should I bring a bipod just for the hell of it? How many rounds should I bring? I usually only load 50 at a time.
With a 6.5 you would be shooting in F-Open which allows for using front rests such as the bald eagle. There is another discipline called F-TR which allows 223 Remington and 308 Winchester only, and in F-TR you have to use a bipod as opposed to a front rest. Note that when shooting in F-Open, the combined weight of the rifle, scope and any attachments cannot exceed 22 lbs (excluding the front rest) and if shooting F-TR, the weight of the rifle, scope, bipod and any attachments cannot exceed 18.18 lbs.
In terms of the number of rounds you would need it depends on the match format. Several people on here are certain to have detailed knowledge about how things are done specifically at Ben Avery, or can point you to their match programs, but commonly one-day F-Class competitions are shot as three matches of sighters + 20 shots for record for each match. The number of sighters vary per club / match rules and distance shot but a common structure is unlimited sighters in the first match, then two sighters each in the following two matches for mid-range matches (typically 600 yards) and unlimited sighters in each match for long-range (1000 yards). I typically load 75 rounds for a mid-range match and 80 - 85 rounds for long range.
My checklist for going to a match includes (if shooting F-Open):
Rifle
Empty chamber indicator (ECI)
Front rest
Mat
Rear bag
Ammo
Eye and hearing protection
Brimmed hat (for the pits)
Water
I bring a ton of other stuff too (spotting scope, mirage shield, cleaning rod, bug spray, clipboard, pen, timer, chair etc.) but with the above I will be able to shoot the match.
