This has sat in the back of my safe for years. Its a Remington XP100 built into a single shot rifle in 7-08. Nice custom barrel, but I don't remember what maker. Nice stock, but not sure what brand that is either. Action is nice and smooth and its a crisp hunting weight trigger.

Any thoughts on value? Would I be better parting it out - what is the action worth?

Thanks in advance.

The only real way to know what it’s worth is to sell at auction with a large group of prospective buyers, no reserve. You will get exactly what a large group of buyers think it’s worth. Gunbroker works for that.

I wouldn't say that's the "only real way" to know what its worth. This discussion forum has thousands of knowledgeable members and many are willing to discuss things like this and give opinions on the value of certain firearms. Someone on a local forum was looking for something like my rifle and I'm just trying to figure out some sort of market value which is difficult on something you rarely see.
Thanks for the reply though.

On Antiques Roadshow, they typically cite previous auction results, or in-store retail prices, as what something might be worth. However, that's made difficult for one-of-a-kind and/or seldom-seen/sold items, with unknown provenance. (Such as barrel and stock make and builder...)

A quick check of GunBroker shows buyers bidding on XP100s in somewhat original condition in the $800-$850 range. But your rifle is a different critter, now.

Unless I thought an item of unknown (but important) history was a real bargain, I would not buy it. Perhaps if you shot it, and if the accuracy results were impressive, it might compel somebody to factor that into the value. If it were mine, I'd decide how much I want for it, and put it out there to see what happens.

I'm not sure it is worth much more than a re-barreled Remington 7, which seem to be listed, but not necessarily sell, for around $600.

Looks like a single shot bolt action deer rifle. Not a large market for sure. Looks like an older inexpensive Bushnell scope? I would say 500.00 top. If it were me I would take it apart, might get 500.00 for the single shot action. Scope 50.00, stock 50.00 to 75.00, barrel 50.00. Gun show material. Now your up to 725.00. Remember the market is shrinking inspite of a small increase in hunting this year to to govt home imprisonment. Plus, lot's of new 300 to 400 dollar new deer rifles available today's that while inexpensive shoot moa or hetter and are not single shot.

My gut reaction is 500-700 alot of rifles feel a certain way that is hard to describe. They tend to sell themselves with that feel.

Unfortunately I’ve always seen these actions worth more in pistols than rifles, which are $1000 or a little more, so that being said I might say 700 ish... always see the xp in the same price range as the Remington 600’s ... many people won’t like to say prices and either be wrong or hurt your feeling... and many times prices are no different than opinions... which is all my prices are is my opinions..

I'm in agreement. It is basically parts. Parts worth more than the whole. The action at $450-500. The stock is gonna be a hard sell, because it is set up for the action. Barrel at $75, Scope..??

Someone might want the action for a PD gun, but the bolt face is 308...

Maybe a 6BR build? Frankly, thats what I would do.

It is worth what the market will bare.
I pieced one together year before last with the help of a good friend.XP action, McMillan stock, Jewel trigger, new recoil lug and a barrel I am around $1200 for the works. Can I get that for it, I doubt it, but it shoots as good as I hoped and then some, sub MOA with loads it likes.
Stocks made for XP rifles are not in great demand, but are not plentiful as years ago.
I see a fun 20 or 22BR.
