Can Case-head Separation Cause Kaboom?

No I just got the text from my Buddy. 4 positions away, shooting silhouette up Ridgway. Man I've had two case separations in my 50 years of shooting/reloading. Lost an extractor in a Savage bolt. Had a devil of a time getting another out of a ruger mini 223 semi auto. mike
Heard about this. Hope he's OK. I've had many case head separations. Never even knew it happened until I opened the bolt.

Much smaller case, but I have had several case head separations in 22 K hornet and 17 FB. I also had a 17 FB split up the body of the case on a sidewall (a LC case reformed to FB). All were in TC Contender and all were likely a product of oversizing and extended chamber length (except the side split which was an unseen invisible case flaw).

In every case it resulted in a dead critter "out there" and no other indication till I extracted (part) of a case.

Not even a puff.

So this is certainly something "more".
