Can anyone identify this Mauser action?

Hello all,

I found this rifle in a pawn shop, it's set up as a 25-06 benchrest type rifle. The action is strange though (At least to me). The rifle was put together amazingly well, but the action stumps me. I would welcome any guidance you folk would have!
Sorry for the quality of the pic, my phone is not great. The action has no marks, and there are several small holes that run horizontally on the other side that look like they're supposed to be there.

Thank you in advance,

I can't see the back of the bolt well. If it has a big round knob on it , my guess would be a Japaneese Arisaka from WWII

The Arisaka 38 is a very strong and, if an early model, well made action. A lot of custom rifles were built around the action in the Fifties and into the Sixties. They were available and the price was right.

Think Snert I.D.d it. Type 38 Arisaka. If there are two gas relief holes under front of scope mount in receiver, it is a type 38. Only one hole then its a type 99. There is a type 20 or something which predates the type 38, not sure on it as to the holes.

For what it is worth (and PLEASE, I KNOW IT IS NOT WORTH MUCH), I have an Arisaka based bench rifle from the early 50's. It is a prime example of that generation's innovation into accuracy and frankly, it still shoots pretty well. It weighs about 17 pounds with scope, has a very heavy and nicely made walnut stock, highly modified action, a Douglas? HEAVY barrel and is chambered in 220 Swift. Loaded mildly at 3500 FPS, with once fired brass, it will hold well under 1/2 inch with a 10X Weaver T10, and 55 gr Vmax, but only after shooting six rounds, and then only till about round count number 20. Then I "sorta" clean it and it keeps shooting for anoher 15 rounds, then repeat. I use it for my go-to woodchuck rifle and have recorded laser confirmed kills to 725 yards. It is awesome to 450 yards. I know by saying this I am opening myself to skepticism, :-[ but I only paid 200 dollars for the gun, and it has been great to me for ten years. I just have to be willing to be different in a sea of sameness. It is certainly no BAT, but is fun.
