Can anyone help, M1 Tanker Garand question.

I have a Tanker Garand that my father bought in the 1980s I believe. It is stamped TANKER on the side of the receiver, and Springfield Armory on the "tang". It is a 30-06.

I have been researching this with the idea to sell, and I can't figure out what a reasonable price would be.

It seems Springfield Armory made their own receivers and started the serial numbers at 7,000,000. The serial number on this one is 3,6xx,xxx. I have looked carefully at the receiver, and it doesn't look like a reweld. At the time of purchase, if Springfield was making their own receivers, the serial number should be in the 7,000,000 or beyond.

I know there was never a tanker garand, that is not my question. I just can't seem to find a definitive price because the serial number doesn't seem to match up with what Springfield Armory was putting out at the time. Or most likely, my research is not accurate?

I figured I would start here as there must be someone that has more knowledge of these than I do.

Thank you for any help you can give.

Jim

I have been assured there was never a M-1 Tanker model. Tankers normally were issued M-3 grease guns. Some branches still Do.

The mini M-14 was a similar deal.the short versions were usually cut down in theatre. They were somewhat of a handful and cutting one down made them a real handful, especially if it was still equipped with a selector switch.

Glad I saw this post. I have an M1 with a ruined barrel and I have been debating parting it out or selling. Now I know what to do with it! Mini G .308 looks like what I want.

Call SA.

See if they will let you talk to a tech and maybe to the "historian" and that way you may get an idea of whether they made it or it was cobbed together.
