Can an android tablet be set up to just do Shotmarker?

Yes. I did that at our club with some inexpensive Android tablets. Clear out everything you can except the browser you want to use. Then go to the browser settings and set the start page to the access point's IP address. I set the screensaver timeout to infinity to keep the tablets from blanking out. (Don't forget to turn off the tablet when you're done using it!) The only headache with this is from impatient shooters that think they know best and start clicking around and gumming up the works. All they need to do is turn the thing on and just wait. But some of 'em can't seem to do that.

also you want to put it in airplane mode, then go in and turn on the wifi. then go to wifi settings and connect to the shot marker. that way it only see's your shot marker, and isnt trying to find another signal to update whatever is on the tablet.

I agree with @Krogen and that's what we did at our club too to make 'dedicated shotmaker tablets'. I have a dozen Fire Tablets and I just stripped them down but like Krogen, and in the beginning there was always someone that had to be smarter than the tablet who moved stuff around but over time it seems that's occurred less and less so that's good.

But honestly at this point I've stopped replacing the tablets and throw them out as they get dropped and such because everyone has a phone or tablet now so once mine are all gone I won't be providing any more. It's just a disposable expense because people largely don't treat them very well (dropping on concrete being the largest offender) but gone are the days of me being able to buy them on Black Friday for $40 each (they're stupidly expensive now when you're looking at getting 8-12 of them) and I have places I can spend that money better to improve the experience.

You can get 7"-10" (small to medium size) for $35-$45 all day long on Amazon. I kind of like using my small Kindle tablet over a full size tablet. Its bigger than my phone but small enough to prop up against an ammo box and still be able to reach over it.

The case that comes with the Amazon Kids bundle (which you can also buy separate) is exactly what you want at the range: well-padded for drops, comes with a kickstand built in, and gives it enough insulation that you can set it in the sun and not have it overheat during a string.

I don't recommend them for any use other than "Range Tablet that rarely-to-never interacts with the internet", but when all you need is a web browser to ride the ShotMarker WiFi, they're great!

Slightly off subject. Would one of you tech savy guys tell me what is needed to plug into an android tablet to record video from a Lonshot camera system, to gain additional recording time. Flashdrive ?? Memory card ?? Additional hard drive. Looking to record & download impacts, and misses ELR type shooting.

Go easy on me ! .

Thank you

That's going to vary by specific tablet, and on whether or not the Longshot app will allow you to write to that external memory. Some tablets include a slot for a memory card, or you may be able to attached an external hard drive to the USB port.

I'd recommend giving the Longshot guys a call if you haven't already -- they may have some specific ideas.
