Can a Walnut stocked gun have a chance?

Timber is still working well for me.
I think the main reason people go for the carbon fibre etc is weight trying to stay in a weight class. And there is the nice patterns etc you can get in a laminated stock also laminates are less likely to warp or distort from moisture or temp change.
But dam its hard to pass up a nice piece of timber.

Interestingly enough, here in the Pacific Northwest, land of much rain and snow and big shifts in humidity... A large segment of the NRA highpower shooting crowd still rely on wood stocks. Often expertly carved by Jim Cloward who makes a living building winning match rifles. Here's a few shots from a match last fall:

From this photo, you really can't appreciate how beautiful that
stock is... Rifle and shooter have won their share of local matches.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wood stocks - solid, laminated, "composite".

You can weatherproof them now so that there is little to no movement. They also have a much warmer feel.

Here are just a few projects of mine.

Have you looked at Serengeti Stockworks? They do custom lamination on very fine pieces of walnut or other stock woods. They use their own process for lamination which retains the look of the great wood. Their work is beautiful and resonably priced for the service they supply. I am currently saving up for one of their stocks to build a old school mauser hunting rifle. www.serengetistockworks.com

Send me your email address and I will send you pics of my redwood stock and my Oklahoma black walnut stock.
