Can a chassis be used in 600 and 1000 yard IBS Benchrest?

I became a member of Hawks Ridge gun club in NC this year and am also close to Peidmont Gun Club. Not much F Class around here and thinking of trying out benchrest this coming season 600 and 1000 yard. I have a 6br in an XLR chassis and was going to rebarrel to either a Dasher or 6.5x47 since I have it and use a Benchrest plate in place of the bipod. I feel sure I can make 17lbs for LG but am not sure if this stock is within the rules. Can someone help me out or point me in the right direction?

Here is the gun and the plate I'm wanting to add.

Ha, I just got off the phone with the bench match director about your rifle and he said as long as you stay with the dimensions of the rules it is OK.

i read the ibs rulebook and stock seems to be ok rule wise. however, muzzle brakes seem to be unwelcome in both ibs and f class competitions.

Thanks guys. I didn't see anything other than weight restrictions for LG but saw somewhere about stock angles and didn't know if it applied here or not. If I didn't already have this and shoot it well I would just buy an MBR or something but trying to utilize what I have as long as I can.

Not sure what you are inferring with the "muzzle brakes seem to be unwelcome" comment, but they are allowed according to the latest IBS rules provided "they may not be of a "clamshell" or any other design that exit gases to the rear."

jelrod1,

With the plate you are fine. I can not tell from the pic. if it is round you may be ok, if not you may need a plate for the rear, to ride the bags better, it is legal as is but may work better for groups.

jel...I forget which one (NBRSA/IBS) requires the LG stock to be less than 3" wide,,,,so if the sled you plan using is less than 3" wide ,,you are OK for either org.........Roger

OOPPSSS,,,,I got it wrong,,,it is F-class that doesnt allow stocks wider than 3"....my mistake,,,,sorry for the confusion,,,,Happy New Year,,,

You will definitely be able to use that stock. The only issue I might see is the muzzle break.

Also like someone else stated you might want to change the bottom of your butt for tracking purposes.

Thanks again guys. New barrel won't have a brake so that won't be a problem. I've never shot off a rest setup with rear bag so I'll have to see how it tracks. I could machine the bottom of the rear portion of the stock more rounded if needed. I'll try it like this first. I think I'd rather do that than add a plate.

Jim , since the winter meeting is not for another week, i didn't think they had made a ruling on the brakes yet? When did this 1/4 hole thingy pass??

Curious minds would like to know

There is no 1/4" brake rule in IBS or NBRSA. In IBS long range there is no rule against brakes that discharge to the rear in heavy gun class, only light gun class has that stipulation.

Go to BRC. Long range, Item #1……… it's all there……… I thought better to do tell you rather than you find out and have to change it….. jim

It is just a proposal, it has not been approved by the board yet.
There are a lot of agenda items that never get approval, hopefully this idiotic one will not be approved.

jamesh, how would it idiotic? when it moves the guy on the next bench right out of the scoring rings with the 300 or a 338? ….. jim

Yea its not fun when you have a 338 Cheytac with a ported brake sitting next to you. I actually saw the tin on the roof move every time he fired. If it moves tin what would it do do a bullet? Matt
