Camp Perry Memorablilia

Thanks for sharing this. There is some amazing stuff in that collection. I was particularly interested in the drawers full of cartridges.

I sent you a PM . In looking at him at the reloading bench , he's name wasn't Richard was it ?

No, his name was Walter. The guns are a few states away, so it might be a while before we visit again. I'll research and get some more photos for her.

A lot of the bullets in some of the cases looked like rocks. Unless its just a lot of corrosion on the lead/copper surface? She had been having people put some of the antique ammo boxes on ebay and made some money on them. Not sure why she stopped.

I'm glad I could share this. I was amazed and spent almost the entire visit in the basement just reading and looking through all this amazing stuff! As I mentioned earlier, I wish I would have met him....

Mr. James Laughland (Farr trophy, 1965) is still alive and well, shooting at Perry this past year. Perhaps he knew your inlaw and could provide some insight. Email me if you would like his contact info. cmprifle@yahoo dot com

Nice find!

Edit to ad: J Laughland is pictured on the cover of the '66 program, holding the Farr trophy, next to Carlos Hathcock with the Wimbledon. He is a true gentleman and a master Historian of Perry.

Wow, I see the stuff from 1962--I was there then. The only thing that I still have is the chrome plated LC N.M. dummy round .30-06 that they gave out with the competitors packet. Oh yes, I did OK in the Crowell trophy with a 99-14V. I got to meet General Lew Walt. What a thrill.

Wow! That's really cool! Glad to hear it. It was my pleasure sharing this here. I was hoping some would find it interesting. I certainly do! I want to find a way to preserve this stuff, but share it at the same time. On my next visit I'll look for the chromed rounds that were mentioned being given out in the packets. I'm sure he has them somewhere.

Resurrecting this old thread. Father-in-law now passed away. It looks more and more like I'll end up with this stuff. I've recently become very fond/interested in WWI USMC history (I'm a former Jarhead) and I would really like to restore these rifles to their original glory, especially the Springfields. I don't know where to begin though.
Incredibly grandpa saved everything, to include the original bills of sale for the Springfields (paid $15 in 1948), Enfield (paid $5 in 1948) and Unertl (paid $80 in 1949). I found the original barrel to one of the Springfields but cannot find original stocks. I've seen a few on eBay but need more info. Some of the stocks for a3's look a lot different from each other. Haven't looked up Enfield stocks yet either. I want it all though, stock, bayonet, slings.

As for the Camp Perry stuff, I'm going to email you @308warbird for Mr. Laughlin's contact info. I need to run up to Camp Perry asap!

Craig, I found some of those same chrome plated rounds in his collection. Thanks, I didn't know what they were prior to your post.

Your Grand father in law would be really happy knowing your sharing his collection (life)
Its nice you found it so his experiences can live on. Maybe go out and pop a cap or 2
with the 1903 or the 37? He would have really liked that.
Regards Lloyd
