Cambering Lube?

Well I did my first chamber today and it went pretty well. Old, 30 cal. take off Obermeyer 5R match rifle barrel with 5"cut from the breach end and 1" off the muzzle. I bought a new Manson 308 Win reamer with a .297 pilot, which fit perfectly (actually I bought a .2975 pilot also), which I didn't break. Viper sent me a quart of his "Venom" which worked really good. I was a bit to timid and didn't cut it quite deep enough in the lathe ("between centers") and had to finish it by hand.

I will say I have not looked at the chamber yet with a bore scope, but I had my hand on the reamer holder the entire time and didn't feel or hear "chatter", so I hope it will good.

Thanks you to everyone for your advise - particularly to Viper - your lube is GREAT and I will recommend it ever chance I get!

There is a possibility the bore os off center...
The bore can't be "off center" when place between centers, and the area to be held is turned.
By definition, it makes the OD concentric to the bore. He's not building a benchrest competition rifle where a few tenths of the bore "wandering" is going to matter.

To the OP, here is an excellent series of videos by a guy that was a well-respected smith (since retired, AFAIK) for chambering between centers. Don't pay attention the jackasses that think their way, is the only way...

Congrats on your first barrel! Anyone that chambers barrels should do it between centers at least once! I've got some extremely accurate rifles built between centers.
