Calling Cheechako...

Ray,

Several years ago there was an article in PS "Secrets of a Houston Warehouse"

In that article it said that the prefect length for a point blank benchrest barrel was X.X inches long.

Do you remember how long the article said the barrel needed to be??

I can't find the article anywhere...

Thanks,

Chuck

Tightneck is correct. 21 3/4". At the time everyone ran out and had their barrels shortened to that length. Except those guys who had barrels shorter than that. I can't say that it made instant hall-of-famers out of any of us, at least not me. Plus when the time came to cut a fresh crown, there went the length out the window. I'm sure it had something to do with the barrel harmonics and that there are other lengths that are just as suitable.

The real word benchrest matches have a thing called conditions.Perhaps the 6mm with its slightly heavier bullets is favored. I feel with good bullets the 22 is just as accurate but the 6mm deals with conditions a bit better. I also read the Houston warehouse article many times and I thought it was the shortend 22 version that Virgil King was shooting. Just my thoughts.
