Help..."Eyes Of God"

A couple of years ago...maybe 3+ now, there was an article in PS magazine..."The Eyes Of God". It featured a spotting scope with a large objective lens and dual ocular lenses. The article said that they were using it at a LR match and were seeing bullet holes on target waaayyy out there.

I can't find the issue anywhere.
I can't remember what brand the scope was!
I can't remember who the importer was!!
I can't find anything on google!!!
I can't remember if it was 2, 3, or four years ago!!!!

Please help this old, forgetfull man. I have a friend looking for a new toy.

Oberwerk 100mm Binocular (25X, 38X, 50X, 75X)

I don't know if this is what was featured in the PS story, but here is the mighty Oberwerk 100mm Binocular. Amazingly, everything you see in the photo is $2195.00 -- including eyepieces, massive metal fork mount, wood tripod, and eyepieces. That's the price for a 25X system. You can get power up to 75X with extra eyepieces sold for $179 per pair.

Consider this -- the entire rig costs less than a 88mm Kowa Prominar Spotter (with eyepiece), and its well over a grand less than the latest Swarovski spotter.

Oberwerk is a USA company that sells through OpticsPlanet.com and Giantbinoculars.com. INFO: http://www.oberwerk.com/

I love the sales pitch: "There are no shortcuts to quality- it takes 28 pounds of aluminum and glass to make the world's most powerful binoculars."

I am not sure if they are the importer or not.

I'll keep looking.

Hah! Pricey but what the heck! I like the part about a sturdy tripod being needed. Doubt my Big Blue scope stand'd work too well, but I do just happen to have a couple Manfrotto 'pods laying about (each with tilt head) that'd work. I'd sell the big one (~22 pounds) quick if anybody asks....

There is also a setup that gunsmith Richard Franklin uses called the Big Eyes:

22x Kowa's mounted side-by-side.

And all that 'power' is gonna do is obliterate the target or whatever by INCREASED MIRAGE!! Very early AM or very late PM....might be useful but in betwixt.....a fugged up mess!!

I have that FNS 120 ( Eyes of God )
If the mirage turns out to be a problem with power, I just pop in another set of eyepieces and drop the power.. The clarity is mind boggling..

In California we use 70X regularly with a Pentax PF100ED. Conditions don't have to be perfect (thought it helps) to have this level of magnification useful in spotting bullet holes. We do dial the magnification down if mirage is really bad, but generally run at least 50X with the PF100ED.

Mirage will never be a concern for this guy. He just bought a house on the top of a hill and will be looking across, up, and down a big valley. It is similer to my hunting shack....no mirage...ever!!!
