Do you already have an XP-100? Later! Frankducks-and-bucks said:Im still debating what caliber will perform very well from a 14 inch rem varmint contour barrel... i need to start shopping for a barrel...
the pistil will be primarily target shooting and hunting from a blind.... shooting nothing bigger than white tail...
6x47lapua, 6.5x47, 6 creedmoor, 6.5 creedmoor, 284win, 7mm-08?
Open to suggestions... i dont want to have something that wont burn all the powder and waste some... i will have a side port muzzle brake on it... im leaning hard on 6x47 running 105 bergers...
what would yall do? What would you not do?
I don't know if you will have enough barrel length on your XP to burn all the powder in some of the cartridges you are considering, to get you to the speed you see advertised for them.ducks-and-bucks said:Everywhere i see load data on a 7br it looks too slow... all the data ive seen shows 1900fps to 2350 fps.. and id really like to be in the 2600-2800 if i can.... thats why the 7br doesnt interest me... not enough powder behind it it seems like for my purposes...

There's the rub of it. A larger case means MORE unburnt powder. Pistols (CF hunting) are about trade offs and challenges. Maybe someone will chime in that actually knows first hand how many grains a specific powder/ caliber burns in a 14" bbl (Q.L.). Compare this The 6.5x 47 Rem Mag uses 17.3 grs. less powder than my 6.5 IHMSA both with 129gr bullets and the IHMSA is only 126 fps faster (these are their best accuracy loads).ducks-and-bucks said:Open to suggestions... i dont want to have something that wont burn all the powder and waste some... i will have a side port muzzle brake on it... im leaning hard on 6x47 running 105 bergers...

I have two XP-100s one in 6mmBR Norma center grip and a rear grip repeater in 7mm08. I am currently working on loads for pigs with three 708s one BLR, the XP and a Model 700. As far as powder goes the Norma 203B is the very best I've found.CJ6 said:There's the rub of it. A larger case means MORE unburnt powder. Pistols (CF hunting) are about trade offs and challenges.
