Calling all computer nerds! Any Apps for Ladder or OCW testing?

Do you guys know if there are any apps out there to simplify the making of a graph, or similar, when using the ladder test or other tests when working up a load? I'm not computer friendly, and am tired of using graph paper, or home made graphs. Thanks!

Are you looking for a mobile app, on a phone or tablet? Without going into graphing calculator apps, look for data plotter apps. 2d Data Plotter for android has reasonably high reviews, however I have not used it. I just use excel for all my plotting.

Conversely, if you're just looking for the flat spot on the curve, you could simply just calculate the delta of each datum in the series. Look for the three in a row that are closest together (lowest numbers). This will eliminate having to actually draw the graph.

Agree with Fast14, I use Excel, input the data, and then just have Excel draw me a graph. If you don't want to learn how to do that, find a sharp 15 or 16-year-old who knows Excel and he/she can do it pronto. Don't mean to be insulting saying that, it's just true that something hard for us older guys is something the kids have grown up with.

With EXCEL or an open source spreadsheet the program can calculate the average group size of all the groups, then you can write a short Formula to list each particular variance +/- (better or worse than average). If you have a field for the group size you can click one button to have the groups ranked small to large.

I've tried using Google Sheets and havent had the ability to configure the graphs appropriately, though that may be because I've used excel for years and don't fully understand Sheets.

6.5 guys have posted the version 2 of their load development spreadsheet and a video to explain it. You will need excel or a program that can open excel. Works very well. You input your velocities by load and it calculates the Mean, Median, Average, Extreme Spread, and The Standard Deviations. 5 shot groups recommended. It will highlight the loads where increases in powder have less increase in Velocity.

Give it a try. It has helped several shooters at our club.

For target analysis try Rangebuddy. Free phone app that makes it easy to measure groups and save/share the analysis. You can insert the result into your load spreadsheet so you have visual and analytical data.

An app like Excel or a free open source spreadsheet (like one found in Apache OpenOffice) can be very simple or as complicated as you want to make it. On the simple side, you can do a simple graph on Excel in less than 30 seconds. Here's some pics of what it can look like for a simple fast graph like you might look at for a ladder test. . .

Here's a simple list of velocities on Excel:

Then select the range of numbers you want in the graph and in the menu under "Insert" select the type of graph you want:

It then produces a graph of the selected range of numbers:

It's really just that easy. And you can put away the pencil and paper. ;) :D
