Call from NRA

Link

Silver $$ Contributor
I get a call offering me $25 off on a 5 year membership of the NRA. So while getting my CC I ask the girl [ that had no idea of how to pronounce my name ] how much of my membership money actually goes to the NRA ? After a long line of BS she says up to 35 percent. I tell her to forget it, and hung up.

What is the best way to donate to the NRA ?

Thanks in advance

PS I am a member of the NRA.

Tell me, how many calls and letter do you get in an avaerage month from the NRA asking for more money?

It's a serious question, I'm just wondering if they market different areas differently.

As a member here in Minn I'd get 3 letters and at least 2 calls a month.

I used to get more mail from them than you could possibly read. In the last few months I have only had a few letters in the mail. Now it's email

I am an endowment member, have been at least a life member for 30 years. HAve gifted 3-4 family members with life memberships. Have given to NRA-ILA, etc.
They call my home 3-4 times a week. Have no clue I am a member. If you don't answer they will call back every two hours.
I believe in them but their marketing strategy is really getting old.

I just got a call last week asking for more money, I NEVER donate anything over the phone, you really don't know who you are talking to. A while back I got a sample dvd in the mail from a company that claimed NRA affiliation/approval on home defense or something like that. Anyway when I read the fine print it stated that if I didn't return the dvd that I was agreeing to accept this series. If there is anything that I hate it is something sent to me "on approval" . Almost caused me to rethink my membership. I support the NRA I only wish they would stop it with the junk mail and spam.

The part that got me was UP TO 35% of my donation would go to the NRA.

That could be one percent.

I just want to know my hard earned moneys go to the cause.

We get a couple of calls a month.

thanks

I got a call from the NRA last month and said send me a letter and I will respond by mail, and low and behold,it was Larry Pratts organization and not the Nra.I dont get it.

I renew every year. They start asking me every month about 5 months early. I ignore those. I have had maybe one call, and told them not to call again. Once they sent me unsolicited merchandise. I sent it back and ripped them a new one for their cheap trick. I do send a hundred or two to the NRA-ILA every time there is a crisis like Newtown. I also always do the "round-up". They pretty much leave me alone.

I would suggest that you look at the members of the board of NRA, pick out someone who lives close to you and contribute through them. That way it all goes to NRA. You will need to decide whether you want to contribute to a 501 (c) (3) or a 501 (c) (4). This is determined by deciding whether you want a tax deduct or do not.

Like all large organizations, the NRA is far from perfect in my opinion and I don't agree with everything they promote but without them I really believe we would have lost our rights to gun ownership years ago.

I'm NRA member and have been for 40 years and I do participate in the "roundups". However being on a fixed income this is the extent of my contribution but I do believe every serious gun owner should be a member.

I got the same DVD in the mail having to do with self defensive shooting. Looked like it was connected to the NRA but maybe it wasn't connected to the NRA after all. I was to either send the DVD back, or send the card back saying I wanted to sign up for the series. The DVD and the card went into the trash. I've now received several letters asking to either send the DVD back or return a card to sign up for the series...those too went into the trash.

In case you don't know, the USPS prohibits this kind of activity to begin with. And if someone does send you something you didn't request, it is yours with no obligation.

Otter - you are spot on! If you receive unsolicited products in the mail (like DVD's), just keep or throw away. They can send bills and reminders all they want; no obligation to pay or return on your part. I've done that with 2 of the NRA dvd's over the years - I think they figured out I wasn't going to pay so they have stopped sending.

I, too, have been a member for ever.

I dislike the cold phone calls and letters so much I NEVER contribute.

If they stopped spending money on phone calls, postage and give away prizes, they wouldn't need contributions!

I used to get junk mail from them. I called the number on the back of my membership card. Told the lady on the other end of the phone that I didn't want to receive any mail from them except the statement I get that lets me know how much I still owe on the life membership. The junk mail stopped. I never get any calls from them.

NRA isn't the only one with the DVD deal, North American Hunting Club is all about that kind of stuff. Do what Otter recomends, they will get the idea. Also a good idea to let them benefit from your thoughts and send it back in their pre-paid envelope. ;)
