California: This Week Is It!

Everyoone in this country has the freedom to live where ever they want! The fact that anyone would choose to stay in a state that is on the verge of taking away your freedom, and its AR's and import ammo and componenets won't stop with that! If your under the imppression that the liberals are at some point going to cease and desist from removing all firearms from your state then you are uneducated, don't care or are not committed to your own freedom. What is the next freedom that your willing to give up to continue living in Ca? Freedom of speech? Freedom of Religion? When do you decide that the battle is lost and you have to fall back, regroup and then charge ahead! The battle lines are not in Ca. like someone else said your state has been conquered by the liberalist liberals in the world and the constituents are not going to vote them out becasue they are getting everything for nothing, for crying out loud, your state still gives cash benefits to welfare recipients! You won't realize how bad this is until the knock comes on your door to collect any firearms you may have left. I can tell you that there are states that will turn back federal imposition when it comes to the taking of firearms or regulations to curtail their possesion or use. You can justify staying anyway you want like oh my wife won't move ,the kids like their schools, I have a really good job, blah, blah blah! It take's a leader of a family that is committed to this casue to to say we are moving, put a for sale sign on the house and get the heck out while the gettin is good. Stay if you want, but don't cry when they pick up your guns cause you asked for it by staying to fight.

what will happen when its not just CA or NY.... CA Gun laws coming to your state next. It will take time but it will happen !

I intend to lay down and fight... smaller target that way! We in Northern California are trying our best to form a new state!

LA, and the bay area can pass any law on any given day without the rest of California having any say in the matter. Until they begin to feel the bite they will continue to elect people who believe that there are no rights!

I am the OP and certainly have done my share of fighting against the CA legislature. But the truth of the situation is simple. It is unwinnable. Gun owners are in too small a minority to persuade a sufficient number of politicians to change their vote. Californians have said in polls, they overwhelmingly support more gun control. You can call, fax, write letters, etc., but it is futile. This has been proven over and over in CA and is happening right now as guns bills are being passed as I write this, despite massive protests. As I said, THEY DON'T CARE!

I am growing a bit weary of people saying, "just move". Everybody's situation is different. It should be obvious that some people can move quickly while others can not. A house that is underwater, a child needing special medical care where the best hospital is in CA, it could be anything. For me, both my wife and I are out of work. Trying to find jobs now, out of state (much harder), sell the house, and move, all the while trying to survive on unemployment benefits is impractical.

It is not just about guns. This is a tyrannical, irresponsible government that cares not about freedoms. This is the bigger issue, the umbrella that has under it, firearms, but also other freedoms, such as how to raise your children (i.e., CA lawmaker proposing children spanking legislation), and a myriad of other basic freedoms that are constantly nibbled away at by the Legislature.

We can stay and fight the unwinnable battle...and continue to always loose. Or leave the battlefield, go to another state, and expend effort standing on the front lines, not in an effort to turn a hopeless situation around, but to preserve freedoms already there. I intend to do that as soon as practical.

Good luck, Phil. I hope the opportunity to improve your lot comes soon. I gave up on the Peoples Republic of Maryland in 2003 when opportunity offered and moved out. I have never regretted the decision; I moved north about 90 miles to a state that hasn't gone completely nuts yet and where I can stand on the front lines and fight a battle that we can hope to win rather than one that is already lost. And they can't call me a carpetbagger from MD because I was born in Lycoming County, PA, lol. Do what you can for as long as you can take it, then, barring a political miracle, bail with no regrets when the opportunity offers.

California sounds like where I live in Canada. The liberals are so firmly entrenched that despite scandal after scandal they keep getting voted in so why should they change? Do you realize how often gun control, welfare state, crime and punishment, health care etc etc come up in everyday conversation? Now imagine you're the only non-liberal in the room! I swear, dealing with the lefty mentality day after day takes a toll on you...like death of a thousand cuts! I really enjoyed a recent trip to Arizona and it made me realize how just talking to people who think the same way as you do will help you live longer. I bite my tongue when the news up here gets folks all riled up because some shooting clearly shows we need to ban all guns. Well biting my tongue is taking a toll now! If you're posting about California out of frustration, it's time to leave for health reasons alone. Stress is the silent killer! Good Luck Phil - check out Arizona!

I have a suspicion that if there was some way to measure it, that a majority of my level of stress, anxiety, anger, unhappiness, and frustration is directly attributable to living here. I, we, must ask, are we willing to put our health at risk to tolerate an environment we detest? That knowledge may push us harder to move, assuming once again, that we can. It is hard to know how much differently we would feel without truly living in a new place, but no doubt, it would be an improvement. Still, I know that some gun owners return to CA and I have been told multiple times, never move just for the gun laws. Too many other things to consider that either singly or combined, could make the move not so good, even offsetting the benefit of lesser gun regulations. But, as I said before, it is not just about guns, it is about freedom and liberty, and my God given right to be left alone. That is not possible here.

Phil,
I understand where your at, I moved to Idaho, to accept a position as project Managerlate in 05. I was frustrated with the environment of Las Vegas, and that in order to Hunt and fish I had to travel to other states. So I did not move due to or a lack of rights about guns. However I wanted an overall friendlier environment, in Vegas everyone is driving 80+, on the freeways cutting people off, and Gang bangers from LA moving in to what were once nice neighborhoods. I too was sick and tired of the way things were going electric rates tripled, taxes were going up , car insurance kept going up. When my friend and mentor in Land Development invited me up, I was astounded by how nice people are, polite, caring, and humble. The state has a balanced budget amendment, and they can't adjourn until a balanced budget is complete, auto insurance is half of what I paid in Vegas. Then in 07 the bottom fell out of the housing industry, and my job went with it. Now I wasn't in total Kaos because I have retirement income for 21 years in the Navy. But I had 3.5 years before I was eleigble for social security. I got rid of lots of things I thought I couldn't do without, and made it through. You too will make it through all this, and perhaps find anew more tolerable place to reside. Good luck, and if your ever over here in Nampa,I hope you look me up. You can pm me for address and phone#.

It is always easy to leave someplace you dont have strong ties too.Poeple do it all the time. But for some of us it isnt as easy as saying I want to move to Idaho. There are poeple here in calif that have ties going back many generations.

Im listening! It suprises me that more of us havent posted on this. Lets not let a good fight end so quickly.

There is a "MACHINE" moving across the nation. All together now, guns, faith, political party and free thinking. Why do you suppose California legalized pot? Its a chemical weapon used by our government to control the population. If were all stoned, everything is all good!!!

Some of us may feel like we stand alone, Ive stood alone my entire life. Ive been shunned, banished and have been disliked for my ability to lead, teach, build and "critisize" when necessary. There is "NO" amount of praying, turning the other cheek, looking the other way and being a "NICE" guy that will change any of this.

It only takes "ONE" of us to be able to stick something in the gears of this machine. It can be stopped. This country was built on the "BOLD ARROGANT FIGHTING AMERICAN MALE. Not one of was in fear to stand alone. When all the nice little sheep "ARE NO MORE" all the wolves left standing will come together .

This has no bearing on your FAITH at all. Its about YOU standing tall, honoring yourself and your convictions, coming together with people of the same cloth and ending ALL of this. Now aint the time to be NICE about anything. In the end, those who stood up and kicked some *** like when we built OUR country will have earned it.

Can a brother get an Amen?!?! Right on! We have been quietly working with our heads down for too long now. It's time to get loud, get proud and get things done our way. I reject the asinine too-restrictive laws that this gov't is saddling us with. Time to push back, in all directions. Covertly, overtly, legal and otherwise... everyone here needs to engage 5 different people a day and get them thinking about personal liberty. We need more numbers on our side, that means taking the message to individuals..we all have a responsibility.

Oh, BTW, if you're traveling thru DC, be aware you can be busted for empty brass in your vehicle! $1000 fine, and a criminal record. Washington Examiner 9/5/13

I have told friends and relatives for years that I don't want to be around for the next American Revolution. It is going to be ugly, but,I think that the Idiot in chief is pushing and his minions are helping. Can you believe that bitch held up a monstrous health law and said 'if you want to know what's in it,you have to pass it".And our government passes it!!!!!!!!!!! Sooner or later it is going to become popular to shoot politicians and our great country will start to fall apart. GOD help us all.

Nampa and Eagle, ID are two places I have researched heavily. I will PM you with some questions if you don't mind. We had planned a road trip to Nampa and may still do so. If so, will definitely try to connect with you.

Just an interesting update to my comments on the People's Republic of Maryland from yesterday; apparently some people are beginning to fight back, although I have no idea where it will lead. I was reading the local (York, PA) morning paper today and on the front page was an article stating that the 5 western counties in Maryland are organizing an effort to secede from the existing state! Since the only county named was Carroll County, that would, in addition, be Garret, Washington, Allegheny and Fredrick counties. The reason given (and I have no doubt with regard to its truth) is that they are tired of their needs being ignored and their desires trampled or ignored. The problem is that Maryland is primarily ruled by the voters in 3 very liberal counties with relatively huge populations (compared to the rest) - Montgomery, Prince Georges and Baltimore counties. All the rest of the counties can't muster enough horsepower to overcome the influence of these three, and of course that goes double for primarily rural counties like the 5 western counties.

A glaring example of the magnitude of the problem was the election night acceptance speech of the then newly elected governor of Maryland, Parris Glendening, a bunch of years ago; he had the gaul to stand there in front of the TV cameras and thank the voters for the huge mandate they had given him with this election; well, Maryland has 23 counties and he had just lost in 20 of them, but with the popular vote in Montgomery, PG and Baltimore counties, he won anyway. Had I just won that election, I would not have called it a huge mandate if I failed to win 20 of the state's 23 counties, regardles of where the popular vote went.

Anyway, while they'll probably get beaten down again, it's great to see that there are still a few people in MD willing to publically fight back. And that same article did mention that there is a similar effort brewing in 12 northern California counties. Maybe there's hope yet Phil (but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting on either effort).

Mike

Secessions have been attempted 220 times, with not a single success. Siskiyou County in northern California is trying, like in Maryland, but seriously doubt it will come about. The tone of the CA legislature and even the arguably more conservative governor was best understood with his spokesman's comment on secession. "It's a supremely ridiculous waste of everybody's time. If you want to live in a Republican state with very conservative right-wing laws, then there's a place called Arizona." Yes, indeed there is...and I can take my tax dollars with me.

Phil

And as of today, 9/10, we in California, are just one step away from ANY sale of ALL centerfire semi-auto rifles that have a magazine, after the legislature passed SB374. The governor is the only one to halt the complete ban of perhaps one of the single largest class of rifles. The legislature also passed a bill banning the POSSESSION of any magazine over 10 rounds, whether or not you purchased it legally or not. If they can do this with a magazine, why not a class of firearms, such as semi-auto rifles, which they have effectively banned completely. The antis may be happy that as gun owners die, the semis must go away due to the wording of the law, but I'm sure they would be thrilled if a lawmaker said, "Why wait. let's just make them illegal to own and get rid of them now".

I can't make up my mind on whether these people are truly as stupid as it appears, or they are smart, and skillfully use their political power to exterminate guns and the owners they hate, all the while knowing none of it will accomplish anything.

California is a lost cause, but the notion of finding ground that is defensible where you can make a difference was no better illustrated than in Colorado today. The passage of earlier gun controls laws resulted in recall efforts, of which two went forward, both succeeding in removing two Democrats from office, including the Senate President. Both are being replaced by Republicans from a special election. The Senate President lost on the recall, 51 to 49%. It can be done, but the battleground has to be winnable. Here, in CA, it is not, our only hope being the governor kills them, or courts overturn. An emerging strategy is to sit back and watch the antis over-reach so far, that courts are more likely to overturn. Risky perhaps, but no other strategy is working.
