So has anyone owned both of these ? I don't shoot for competition ( not sure where one even is lol) but would really like to up my game with a good front rest, the sand socks on top my my gun case or the bipod) rear bag combo work but eehh. I'm dead stuck between these two . For tall who've owned both which on do you prefer?Screenshot_20220530-160638.pngScreenshot_20220530-160726.png

Rock br is the best of the 2. I have owned both.

Ive got the earlier verson of the deluxe and it works fine. For the difference in the money I would get the BR every time. The BR was bot invented when i got mine.

Really depends on what your stock shape is and how you’re planning to use it.

Used all Caldwell gear at my local club (rests, bags, etc).
But...I bought a Bald Eagle.
I threw out that windage cable though and did the usual mod of the windage plate.
Actually used it for the first time today (as finally have my Oryx stock attached to my CZ457).
Loved it! Great combo with the Oryx chassis and the Bald Eagle rest, plus Protektor bags front and rear.
Yes, spend that few extra $$ and get a Bald Eagle or better.

I'm shooting everything from a Boyds target varmit to just a place wally world stock probably gonna be in prone out in a cow pasture or off the bench at the local public range.

Id skip those and go minimum a bald eagle. Dont waste your money on something youll have to replace later. Put up a wtb ad on here and get a better used one and save some coin

Well as much as I appreciate it y'all I gotta say one of those bald eagles is really really past my budget currently lol. I think even a used one would be something I couldn't really justify

I mean if I was shooting competition then I could see it but closest thing I do to that is bet one of the guy at the public range I can pop a shot shell @100yd lol. Really I just want something so I'm not doing this all the time , gets old pretty quick lol ( yes I know I look like a complete "poor" give me a break lol !)IMG_20220215_142307802.jpg

You didn't search very far!

I agree, go with the Bald Eagle. I recommend the aluminum yoke though. I traded with a member here, my cast iron sling-shot for his aluminum. I've been very happy with its stability & the lighter weight was much more convenient for me.

$400 seems awful high though! I know about inflation, but my BE cost about $200 not that many years ago. The idea of soliciting for a used BE sounds like a good plan.

BTW: Checked Grizzly's website direct & price is $264.

The much more desirable Big 50 is $129.95 from Grizzly. How can you look any further?

Spend a little more and get something you won't have to replace. IF they're still being made, a simple, heavy, and stable Hart pedestal is an excellent rest.

The Caldwell BR is good for what it is, but $135 is a bit high priced. Even if you account for inflation over the last year. I bought the “ deluxe set” last year around this time, either Memorial Day or July 4th sale for $99 shipped.

Saw someone struggling with a make shift set of bags and lumber at the range and let them use the bags. When they asked how much something like that would cost and winced when I told them $40-50, I offered the bags for $20. Settled for the $12 he had in his pocket and cold soda.

I think I’m in it about right for a rest that rides around in the back seat of the truck.

I’m not a big time shooter, but enjoy small groups and nice equipment. Looking at what you have set up, and money being tight, I’m not sure I would buy a rest right away. You could probably benefit from a good set of bags.

A good rest and crap bags may not show the benefit of a good rest. A good set of bags almost never need replacing, and may cost time and a half the price of a budget rest.

Check the local lumber yard or framing crews and ask about a cutoff from laminated beam and use that instead of the hard case that sinks in the middle. Lots of ways to improve what you have for very little dollars. Those improvements will be needed before a rest will do you much good anyway, so might be money better spent right now.

Back to the Caldwell. The castings are cheap and rough. The elevation and windage adjustments smoothed out after I put some gravel in the threads. Up was not a problem, down would stick. Both directions felt like it was click adjustments, kind of ratchets. Probably worth the $85 I’m in it.

I agree^^^. The OP is going to need a cheap tool bag tote to carry his bags anyway. Cut some boards of varying thickness to match the front and rear bags and have them with you.
