In order to use a Protektor 3" top bag, several modifications have to be made.
First the rest top will not expand wide enough for the Protektor bag, so I made a plate, thin alum.) that goes under the top and extended out past both ends by about 3/8". I then contured it to follow the curved lines of the top rest. This is where the vertical ends attach. This is the middle picture.
Because the vertical ends now are farther out then from the factory, the left side end needed to be contured, ground down)so when the rest was moved all the way to the left it would not hit the vertical elevation post. Grinding wheel and then a dremmel tool did the job. This cut-out is 1/4 of a circle about the size of a nickle. Picture on the left.
The Protektor bag has leather tabs that extend out from the bottom of the bag at the 4 corners. These are too far apart to use the flat mounting bar supplied with the rest. I purchased 1/2" alum stock 1/8" thick and cut two bars longer then what is supplied. These were also contured to the curves of the rest in that area. Picture on the right.
I used a primer and a flat black spray paint on all the parts I had to manufacture or modify. If all needed materials would have been on hand the total time to modify would have been about 2 hours.
Hope the pictures add some clarity to what I have written.
