Just passing on some B.C data worked up on a variety of 6mm bullets that we evaluated at 300 meters at the MCSO Firearms range outside of Phoenix , AZ.
We used a Bartlein 26 inch 1/ 7.5 twist 6mm barrel chambered in 6xc (across the course reamer) to gather some B.C. data on the following bullets.
95 gr SMK
107 GR. SMK
105 Berger VLD (OLDER ADVERTISED .556 G1)
105 Berger VLD (Newer advertised .493 G1)
105 HYBRID
115 DTAC
Had some 6.5 stuff loaded up so for good measure we ran calc. on 139 gr SCENAR and 140 Gr. AMAX fired from an 8 twist Kreiger chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor.
Everything including the 6.5's were loaded with H4350 and CCI BR-2'S off the lands .010-.015.
Two OEHLER 35P'S were used. One was placed 12 ft. from the muzzle and the other at the target 327 yards away. (We have an improved range with an elevated firing point at this distance, which makes laying down and shooting for group through the chronograph very convenient.)
Temps were 65-67 degrees.
Elevation at the range is a little under 1000ft.
Humidity ? It's Phoenix ....it was under 20 percent.
My partner and I are both shooting all of these bullets or at least have shot all of them in highpower matches out to 1000 yards with the exception of the HYBRID and the 95's of course.
I then used the SIERRA INFINITY software to determine the approximate B.C's for ea. of them we tested. Five shot strings were recorded so keep that in mind as well , I'm sure any other variables we did not account for would have some influence on these numbers if you do the same in your part of the world.
BULLET MUZZLE VELOCITY AVG. TARGET VELOCITY AVG. B.C
95 SMK 3050 FPS 2445 FPS .481
107 SMK 2981 FPS 2416 FPS .513
105 VLD (OLD) 2969 FPS 2423 FPS .530
105 VLD (NEW) 3027 FPS 2461 FPS .520
105 HYBRID 3045 FPS 2513 FPS .547
115 DTAC 2955 FPS 2440 FPS .555
140 AMAX 2806 FPS 2319 FPS .573
139 SCENAR 2707 FPS 2214 FPS .554
Feel free to convert away to G7 but I don't care enough to do that .
Also, I spoke with Pekka Lintula of Lapua at SHOT last week and he told me, as I'm sure most of you know , that Lapua has done away with B.C.'S altogether and has Doppler radar data on almost all of the Lapua line with the exception of some hunting bullets . The input on their ballistic program is 100 percent actual Doppler from the muzzle until the bullet is transonic. I haven't been on the program yet but you can access it at no cost. Put in the correct environmental data , cal, bullet, etc. and it spits out the info.
