Cabela's WOW...

Went out to my local Cabela's today just because I haven't been in a long time , basically because they didn't have anything reloading wise on the shelves since the bass pro buy out.... WOW , they are even higher then last year... They had Winchester brass for $30+ bucks a bag... Single 100 packs of CCI primers at $4.29 a pack.. Makes it hard to buy anything at those price points...It makes it a little easier to pay that hazmat fee... There wasn't a lot of people there to say the least....

I have like $100 in points when that is gone I probly won't trade there any longer.. I am looking at better deals on the card. I do use the card a lot just because I live in the sticks and not much is available here.. There are better card deals out there..

Noticed that also. As soon as the Bass Pro name stated showing up in the store, the shooting related gear started thinning out but not the price.

Well, I was at our local Cabela's about 3 weeks ago(?) and I was taken aback by the amount of loading stuff available. The shelves were packed to the gills! I hadn't seen that much stuff on their shelves in months. Didn't check prices on anything as I was looking at a Beretta shotgun.

My days of Cabela's patronizing is gone, started about the time they were being bought out on a pair of shoes, that coupled with a long drive to their nearest store and in town competitor..... the choice was easy and painless
Yep, bought a pair of boots there BECAUSE of the warranty and now...there is no such warranty after the buyout!

I gave up my cabelas credit card (CAPITAL ONE!!) due to the lack of fraud prevention. I still have a $500 cabelas gift card in my wallet but nothing there that is decently priced. They add 20% to the price and have a sale of 10% off. Sad

I was discussing this with the wife this am. They used to run some good sales, but that is rarely the case any more. Going to be doing much more local shopping at Scheel's. I mostly do online stuff at Midsouth and Midway, anymore. Sad, because I have a store 1/2hr away. I don't know how they can compete. Being from Nebraska it has been double tough, because they got rid of the local Worlds Foremost bank and basically destroyed the town of Sidney.

3 years ago we had a Cabela’s open near me. Bass Pro was 40 miles away but was still a decent place to shop. For the last year or so every time I go in Cabela’s the stock is different and the prices are higher almost every time. Won’t be frequenting either of them anymore.

I was a Cabelas disciple for decades. Bought my first shotgun at the Sydney store, which was a 2 hour drive for me at the time. There are now two Cabelas within 30 minutes of me, but I slowed down on my Cabelas visits years ago due to a continuing lack of stock on the shelves. The Bass Pro buyout was the final nail in the coffin. I pretty much never go to Cabelas, and never even think about Cabelas anymore.

A Scheels opened up about an hour north of me last year. That place is awesome!

I still give my LGS first chance, though.

I don't have enough time or money for Cabello's and "Bass Pro" (commercial sport fishing?) is an alien concept. I have been waiting for over 2 months for my new reward's card that will have $3.63 transferred from the old Cabello's to the new Cabello's/Bass Pro; I think I will spend it on pop or peanuts. Cabello's shut down their "Bargain Cave" - the last place of interest for me.

Yes sir , they closed the bargain cave in Buda TX also , that was kinda the end for my wife... She enjoyed finding T-shirts cheap in there while I went through the reloading and shooting stuff.... A nice employee there said the reason the shelves went bare was they had to sell what was on them before restocking after the buy out.... I never thought their prices would get even higher but they have , some things are almost double since the last time I was in there.... They didn't even seem to have as many handguns as they used to.... Now what used to be the bargain cave is all camouflage clothes.... Honestly it's a real shame what has happened to it.... $30+ for a bag of crap Winchester brass is just asking for it though...

New guy here but I just recently bought a rock chucker at cabelas and they price match certain places like midway brownella.
They price matched midway on the press on Easter weekend

Kind of seems like Bass Pro thinks they have the market locked up since buying out Cabela's. It's a shame Cabela's used to be a great store.

I was a big cabela's fan too, not so much today.
I, or my parents bought something for me from Scheels in 1972, Bismarck, ND. One opened in Minot I think 1974-75, long before I had ever bought from Cabela's. I'm glad to see them branching out.

It is a shame, I used to sell products to them, but I dropped them years ago. I still sell the same amount, only to more(smaller) stores. What has changed is the PITA that they became, buyers who wanted to demand everything and tell you what your terms were going to be. I spelled out my name to a buyer once and he was confused. Told him I didn't want the check he was sending me to have the wrong name on it. He stated that I didn't work for them, I said that's correct, and I dictate my own terms of sale. Oh, they wanted to be added to a 3 million dollar insurance policy as well. Last straw for me.

My sentiments echo everyone here. There was a time when I spend a lot of time and money at Cabela's. Now, I hardly go in there. I have been using the Capital One CC and still have points on it, but that isn't worth it any more. I need to find a card with better returns that I can use any where.
Sad, though, Cabela's is only 5 or 6 miles from our home. Use to love to go in there.

I guess the whole Cabela's thing is gonna come and go before I even set foot in one of their stores.

I did most of my shopping at the place before they even HAD stores.

I guess I'm kind of boring in the shopping department, and these big "super stores" are not my thing. I roll with the "less is more" concept.:p
