Cabela's going Toys 'r Us

I was in BP this week in Hampton Va and everything I wanted was about 50% higher than what I can buy it for in other places. I heard a guy tell his wife or gf "these are really good prices" and I thought what an idiot. It is sad what these stores have become. They have lost me as a customer that's for sure.

What item were you looking at the was 50% higher?

One that comes to mind would be 55 gr gamekings #1365 for $28 I got them elsewhere for $18 and change. There were other items but I don't recall the price of them.

Scheels is a darn good store.
Rapid City SD, in particular. I did ask a younger fellow if they had a 24 cal jag & he didn't know what that was.
Superb customer service.

That place is great, go there every time I'm in Rapid City. But I must say the Cabelas there has been great also. Speaking with a few employees at Cabelas they will quietly let you know how disappointed they are in the changes.

They do support matches with prizes. In PA, they support the Hunters Sharing the Harvest program. A few years back, my brother won a Cabela's hundred dollar gift certificate for a donated deer. As far as their merchandise, they are just responding to the shift in demographics, an aging and dwindling hunter population.

I told my wife I was part of a dwindling hunter population and she said no you’re not, just look in the mirror. Women. Can’t live without them.

A friend bought a new shot gun from Cabelas', the trigger didn't work, impossible to fire. Took it back they were not interested in helping him. They offered to send the gun to the factory, when it "returned" the fore stock was on backwards, some of the screws had 'locktite' on them and it still didn't fire. Cabelas offered to take the gun in on trade at a 70% discount. It's now at an independent gun smith.

The Cabela's "near" me is 65+ miles away. After they refused to take back boots I cannot wear after the "buy out" I have not been back and have no intentions of going back. We have a Sportsmans Warehouse store within 5 miles of our home which is where I go if I want something now, vs ordering it from several outlets.

I too am watching my local Cabelas be ruined by Bass Pro. The only good thing i’d they always stock Lapua 6 BR brass
