CA hunting - less than 1% of the population...

Congress usually changes a Supreme Court decision by rewriting or passing a new law. Part of the
''Balance of Powers'' written in our Constitution. Some say the Supreme Court gone from lnterpreting
the law to WRITING the law over the last 60 yrs.

if the courts are writing law, it’s because Congress failed to do so. Congress no longer writes law, it just hands power and discretion to unelected bureaucrats along with statements of intent and desire.

And thanks the idea of “chevron deference”, the courts overwhelmingly just defer to whatever interpretation the Executive branch bureaucracy offers up.

These agencies even have their own enforcement divisions.

The result? No separation of powers at all. The executive branch writes law, interprets law, and enforces it.

wbm. Our states used to operate under the SAME electoral college system and senate/house legislative system. Then along came Civil Rights ''Reapportionment'' of state legislatures. Twas the brainchild of the United States Supreme Court Chief Justice EARL WARREN... Before Warren each county had same number of Senators. State House Representatives were chosen based on POPULATION. Along comes Earl Warren saying the bigger/ more populace counties should have more voice and POWER. Aftermath was some counties have NO senators... ALL the state political power is in the cities.
Thats the situation we have in some states that have WACKO cities like LA Chitcago, New York City, Detroit...

I really appreciate your explanation of how our state governments work. I'm gonna trust your accuracy on this issue, and say that at the age of 63, I wasn't aware of how this change came about. Waaayyy too many of us are uneducated in the workings of government or have given up.

If we let the Electoral College system get canceled on a nation wide basis, we will have the same horrific problem with presidential elections also. jd

jds. l appreciate the compliment. l'm no brain, just a tired old painter who may have stiffed a little too much THINNER:rolleyes:.. l do love my Country and 0ur Freedoms. As l also like guns and shooting, l read what l can to be familiar with Both. Our Constitution and form of govt was written for stability and harmony... lf our government were base on a popular vote/opinion we would be in REAL trouble. l dont need to relate how quickly public opinion can change... Hopefully we will be able to survive this latest crisis KEEPING our guns and REPUBLIC too

I live about a mile north of the CA border. We've got a pretty huge federal refuge with hunting allowed on both side of the border. (with certain regulations).

There are I think, way more Oregonians that hunt even on the Kali side of the line. Partly because there are no sizable Kali towns on the south side.

This refuge is now challenged with water shortage, that has pretty much cut the bird habitat and hunting area in half or even more. Having lived in this area all my life, it is depressing to see the recreational and economical loss that has occurred. We used to say stuff like, "The sky was black with birds." or "You could hardly hear yourself think." -- when talking about the honkers, mallards, specs, and the shooting. jd

Small game: Here is where the led free ammo, sucks. I hunt Rabbits with a .22 pistol iron sights. They require 2 rounds to kill. The first round usually stops the critter (I never shoot at a running rabbit, no need) the second shot is the coup de grâceis.

Varmints, Predators and vermin: I limit Coyote shooting with the .223 or 22-250 to 300 yards. I don't believe the 36 grain VG will make a merciful one shot kill beyond that. I pistol shot a jack rabbit at 75 yards with Winchester .22 led free ammo. I fired 10 rounds watching dirt fly up directly behind it, thinking I was missing it, for the most part the Jack just moved a few feet then stopped. I hit it 8/10. The damn led free ammo was punching through it like an ice pick, zero expansion, inhumane in my opinion.
Yeah - I tried that Winchester lead-free and for my own safety, I decided to stop using it. Sparks and crap flying everywhere. I do commend Winchester for doing something no one else is stepping up to the plate to do though. Instead of using those little 36-grain Varmint Grenades, step up to the 50 grain Varmint Grenades or 50-50 Lead-free Ballistic tips. They will absolutely put the hurt on them well past 400 - and have been successful beyond double that. Trade your .22 Pistol in for a .17 HMR and shoot Hornady lead-free ammo. Making a few tweaks on equipment and ammo will have you smiling (though maybe not laughing) again.

i have been considering a .17 HMR for a while. Any recommendations on a rifle ?

I feel better now knowing I and the other members from CA on this forum got what we deserved.

BTW: every idiot liberal I knew of here has decided Texas is the place to move to, live in, and change politically. They are dedicated to their cause, flip Texas. Must have seen 25+ radical liberals move there so far. Good riddance.
Mmhh, You are on to something.
I honestly didn't mean it that way. No doubt California is the liberal state capital and the numbers don't lie. They voted for what they got and it has turn out this way, Now they are spreading.....
I know there are Californians who don't deserve such treatment.

I am limited in bullet length by my 1:14 twist.
