C.A. Ranger saga is over

After getting it back from the second time sending it in, I thought it was finally fixed. Ran a few mags through it with no issues. On the third outing, the last round ejection issues started to reoccur. I dumped it -- it's gone. Never to buy another C.A. product again. Bolt action 22 LR. rifles have been around for 150 years. I don't understand why they can't get it to function reliably.

I'm sorry to hear of your disappointment. My Ranger has given me very good accuracy so far after about 50 rounds with no extraction issues yet. Fingers crossed the accuracy progression continues with mine.

I bought one about 4 months ago. Have about 200 rds through it. Very acceptable accuracy, but occasionally have extraction issues. Seems the issues occur when trying to extract slowly. Rapid bolt manipulation seems to cure it. Not gonna give up though. I have 2 other CA rifles and both are very good shooters.

I had no idea what a CA ranger was, so I looked it up. I have no idea if you got a lemon or they all have issues. But i have something to say. "CZ, CZ, CZ" someone told me about them and I was all "I just need to find a rail and drill and tap my old Remington!" he convinced me to buy a CZ and I wasn't going to do it then the family all gave me gift certificates at Midway USA . I have 2 now and I know they are not as accurate as a vodo or an annie but they are well built and made of steel and wood. They feel like you are holding a high quality centerfire rifle. I wish you were close so you could shoot one or both.

Had a CZ. Just didn't like it. It did function well and accuracy was good. Personal taste only - no complaints about the gun. The Christensen Arms Ranger has a history of extraction/ejection problems. They are all over the web. They were supposed to have sorted it all out but not true.

With just a little money laid out, a stock 10/22 with a new barrel and some trigger work will shoot with any CZ (even with a custom barrel). I own several differently configured 10/22''s. One with a Kidd trigger group and 16" barrel outshoots my Annie, Stuhl and a few friends CZ's with custom barrels.

I have shot informal silhouette matches with it in a Hogue stock and placed just as well as with my Annie and Stuhl. Even cheap Blazer groups at .300 or better in that gun.

What the hell is a stuhl?

Stuhl is a manufacturer of quality benchrest 22 LR rifles. Model 150 was highly regarded in it's time.
I think he was letting you know its a Suhl not stuhl

l bought a CZ457 over the holidays in 22magnum. Tis a varmint model. l was amazed at the difference in quality of this blue steel CZ457. Comparing it to a Savage R93 17HMR Varmint SS laminated thumbhole.
There really in NO comparison. My son is only a kid @51, he thinks the thumbhole is COOL. He loves it.
This 457 is my first CZ, made by a truly modern ''GUN'' company. They have walnut stocks, plastic stocks, laminated stocks, metal stocks. EVEN chassis stocks...

btw. l've seen quite a few Christensen Arms guns in for repair at Jarrett Rifles

My Christensen Arms Ranger now has about 200 rounds thru it, mostly SK Match and continues to impress me. Using three different 1022 Magazines it chambers flawlessly and extracts reliably unless you try to go slow. At 50 yards it is equal to my CZ457 Varmint and I am soon going to go to 100 yards and see how they compare. I also plan to try some other match grade ammunition in the CA.

I have had same issues with extracting slow on mine as well. Using SK Biathlon, it shoots very well and extracts reliably if you work the bolt with meaning.

To be clear, no matter how I manipulated the bolt - from gentle all the way to ripping my shoulder out - the problem existed. Also, you shouldn't HAVE to pull the bolt like you are starting an old, stubborn lawn mower. There are enough postings about extraction/ejection problems to put the CA in the less than a 50/50 chance of getting a good one.

Put another 50+ rounds of SK Match thru my Ranger in some tricky wind at 100 yards. Groups opened up to about 1 MOA when I was able to stay on top of the wind. Some groups were blown , however. Feeding and extraction remain satisfactory. I think it's time for some RWS R-50, Lapua Midas +, and Eley TenX, to see what she likes at 100 yards.
