Buying and selling??

Maybe this should be posted in the Buy & Sell section but it's something that I keep thinking about and needs to be said. It happens quite often!!
If you get for something from one of the forum members, tell them "I got It". All it takes is a click of the mouse and your message is sent.
It's nice to know that the item was recieved. Sure as hell, if you "didn't" get what you paid for, you'de be all over the seller. >:(
Communications go a long way. Don't leave anybody hanging. ;) A simple "It's on it's way" or "I got it" sure makes things better. :) Mike.

If I may, lets take this another step further. When I purchase something off the forum, I would expect the person selling to put the item in the mail, UPS or what ever when I say "I'll take it". Instead, the sellers normally wait until they have the money in hand before sending. The person selling doesn't trust the buyer but the person buying has to trust the seller to eventually send the item purchased. In my opinion, the seller ought to have the item in the mail when the buyer says the check is in the mail. Trust goes both ways instead of just one way. Yes, I put my money where my mouth is. When I sell something, it goes in the mail when the buyer says the check is in the mail.

I completely agree with Mike. It is called "courtesy".

David: You said a few things I didn't say.
"Common curtesy" goes a long way.
If we're talking $50.00 on a deal, you can't get a tank of gas and a good lunch for that.
But if $50.00 means life or death for you, you shouldn't be buying or selling. ;) Lots of folks will ask questions and indicate "they want it" but when it comes to dollars and cents, you never hear from them. ??? It all boils down to "put your money where your mouth is" or keep quiet. If you want something, be a man (or woman) about it.
I'll ship stuff if I'am told "I want it" and "The $$ are in the mail". It doesn't take much to figure out when people are "just shopping". And like you say, trust goes both ways. And it doesn't take long to figure out who can be trusted. You just add that to your memory bank and make sure you never deal with them again. ;)

david: I've bought and sold many items over the years on this forum, and have mostly never had anything but the best results, from a lot of "good guys". But, I do not agree with your thoughts that an item should be sent as soon as someone posts a msg. " I'll take it". I posted an ad about a year ago, a person immediately responded, said he wanted it, I patiently waited, and waited, and waited, passing up other offers to buy it, and to this day, he never followed up with any further contacts. I sent P.M.'s, made additional notes to the ad, etc. and he never gave me the courtesy of a simple reponse/ not even a simple " I changed my mind & don't want it". Ignorance in its' most blatant form. Then again there is always the possibilty that payment was sent, the seller already sent it, but the payment is lost or stolen in transit. I would not expect the buyer to send another payment, nor would he be expected to return the item, so what's your "solution" to that problem? If someone has a problem with the item not being sent 'til payment is received, they should make it known. Also once payment is made, and the seller does not send the item, they become the subject of mail fraud by the USPS, so protection shifts to the buyer. And finally, the next time you call Midway, Mid-South, Powder valley, etc and place an order, tell them to ship now, before they receive payment, but the "check will be in the mail".

This is all well and good, in a perfect world, and may have been how it was done years ago. But how many of the advertisers on this site, or any commercial retailer for that matter, will do what your asking? Send out something before its payed for?
The first thing they ask for is a good credit card, and if it doesn't fly, they dont ship.
If your gas card doesn't work, the pump wont turn on, Etc Etc.
And why is it that there all that way, could it be that to many people wont something for nothing now days? And have killed the trust of most good Americans.
We often like to think were all good friends here, "and I like to think that", just one big family with a common interests and morals, but I'm afraid its not that way.
When you deal with the general public, and I'm afraid that's what we are, a cross section of the general public of the USA in 2010 Were all dreaming. Sorry to say.
And Isn't this what Pay-Pal is all about. (no trust)
Mike.

Dave,

I too have had many buy/sell experiences on this board and 99 percent of them have been good. That said, it only takes one bad experience to cure you of the "Trust" issue with your fellow shooters.

There have been two issues where an "I'll take it" turned out sour. So now, no offence to anyone, but I will send the item when I receive your USPS money order.

I will also expect to send the MO before I receive the product. As was stated earlier, that provides USPS fraud protection to the buyer.

+1.

I agree with a lot that has been said, but I would never feel slided if the seller waited till payment was received before they shipped my item. I have several friends on this site that I would not hesitate to ship an item to them and allow them to pay me later, but I would never expect others that did not know me to do the same.

I feel as a buyer, I expect the seller to wait for payment before shipping an item.

I don't know of any site on the internet that ships when someone indicates they want something. Until the money arrives that's all it means, "I want it.":) I've sold many guns on the internet. I, personally, would not ship until payment has cleared my bank.

I just bought a expensive item and asked the seller to sent the item if I sent him a copy of the PO MO customer receipt. We will wait and see how that works. It's been all good so far with me even on evilbay. And it's not a 2 way street the way it usually works. The seller has the item and money both in hand at one time.

Shoot straight.

Something to consider....

If somebody sends a USPS money order, a bank cashier's check, or even a personal check, you have a "paper trail" if things ultimately go bad. If a seller cashes the check, but does not ship the item, you at least have *some* evidence if you decide to pursue legal action.

If a seller sends the item on the buyer's word that payment is on the way, but it actually isn't, they have very little proof that the buyer ever received the item, making legal recourse that much tougher.

I don't like the legal route, but just the knowledge that it "could" happen is usually enough to keep most parties honest.

FWIW, I never expect a seller to ship on my word alone, and have zero problems with them waiting until the payment I send is in their account before shipping.

Just always keep the buyer WELL INFORMED OF WHAT IS GOING ON when you receive payment.

Look up Clint Swigert, he sells ammo and ships as soon as he gets the order. He has emailed saying its in the post and I have had to email back asking what I owe him.

Besides all this, I am constantly amazed at just how lazy some members are, just how much effort does it take to start the header with; WTB, WTS, or WTT,ect.. I'm not talking about members with less that 15 posts, but the ones with 300 + posts

Sorry, No way in hell would I just send off items to whoever said I will take it.. I do however include tracking info and if you don't use snail mail you will get tracking info the same day you make payment...If it is someone I know or have dealt with many times then I have zero problem sending it off..

I find those that don't communicate annoying.. I always give a person feedback if the transaction was fair, those that don't in my opinion are just rude.. Either way, just sending items before payment is not good advice..

I agree with Wes. Of course, when I'm selling something, there are some members I've dealt with before and I ship as soon as they say, "I'll take it." I think it would be a mistake to institute exact rules governing sales/purchases. It has worked in it's present form for a very long time. IF it ain't broken, don't fix it!
