Buying and Selling on this Site.

Over the past couple of months I've listed a number of items for sale on this site. What I've asked people to do is post a message on the sale item stating "I'll take it" and then follow up with a PM to my address stating the same. It's important to do both, place a message on the ad saying I'll take it as well as sending a private message to the seller stating the same. Some buyers have left a message on the ad saying I'll take it but neglect to PM me, while others have sent a PM to me but neglected to post a message on the ad.

The reason to do both, send a PM as well as post a message on the ad is to avoid confusion with both the seller and other potential buyers. When you leave a message on the ad saying I'll take it but neglect to PM the seller, sometimes the seller will not see the message on the ad and not realize they have a potential buyer. If you send a PM to the seller letting them know you want the item but neglect to post a message on the ad saying I'll take it, other potential buyers don't realize you've contacted the seller via a PM and think the item is still for sale.

In short, cover your bases, post a note on the ad saying I'll take it and then send the seller a PM letting them know you've decided to purchase the item. By following this process you'll ensure that the buyer knows you want the item and you'll also inform other members that you purchased the item.

If you can get people to follow instructions, it more than I have
ever accomplished. The biggest problem, they will not take time to read the post. I could write a book about selling adventure on the net. LDS

If you can't bother to follow a simple "suggested" rule (I'll take It followed by a PM) you must not want it that bad!! I've had people ask "what are you selling"? DUH!! Maybe they just need to spend a few $$? Next in line?;)

You too busy trying to hide what you buy or do from the outside world?
One CLICK on the PC and the WHOLE WORLD can see what you do. Stuff YOU didn't even know you did.
You got a Drivers License? Own property? Pay Property taxes? Vote? Have kids in school? Been in the Service? Have a bank account? The list goes on and on. You can run but you can't hide!!

Lots of folks will post "I'll take it" just so someone else can't get it.:(

I second this.
It is super frustrating to post an I'll take it and send a pm to get a sorry I sold it yesterday.
Please post an I'll take it
And please mark ads sold or delete when they've been sold.

Wait....what???? What is this "one click" of which you speak???? Are you telling me that wifey can push a button and find out about those twins in Mexico????? Well fellas...it's been good to know ya!!!!! I mean, I know what I did...just sayin'

"What his Dollar got him was a seat at a bench in a room, looking thru a one-way mirror at a room with a chicken in it."

I won't even think about responding to an add when it says "posted elsewhere". "PM sent" bugs the crap out of me. Was it a question? Was it an offer? Was it accepted? I always post "I'll take it. PM sent.", and I always follow thru. It's the only decent thing to do.

As for de-listing or marking sold, my stuff for sale till I receive paypal confirmation or am told money is sent. Now that we have selling prefix's, why not a SPF one, instead of only the turn off of sold?
On the lighter side, I wish everyone did it like me.

Due diligence does wonders. If it is too good to be true, it is. There are no free rides in life. A con man can not con an honest person, only a greedy or ignorant person.

I find much more frustrating the seller who posts something for sale. You reply "i'll take it" and send a PM 1 minute later. You then hang on the computer quite a while hoping to send payment. Seems polite. Then you give up and go away from the computer but keep checking frequently. You wait 24 to 48 hours to hear from him. And the majority of the time when this happens the response you finally get is "already sold" although I think it is more likely seller's remorse. --Jerry

DON`T TRY TO POST LIKE IT`S SOMEONE ELSES FAULT WHEN YOUR MULTIBLE LISTING DEALS GO SOUTH.....
I did all you suggest........ above
But when a fella lists more stuff than he can keep track of..... it creates a problem on both ends......
That`s what happened with you and I...... I said I`ll take it and sent pm........ you did not reply for over a week....... when I pm`d again.... asking "where are we at on this bullet deal"...... you replied another person was first... so I was out...... another week later.... after I sent you a copy of you replying you are out.... you said I could have them.......
My suggestion to you is......
LIST ONLY WHAT YOU CAN KEEP TRACK OF....... IT`S NOT ALWAYS THE BUYER WHO IS AT FAULT....... YOU ARE THE ONE WHO MIXED THINGS UP...... I HAVE YOUR REPLYS.....

I wasn't pointing you out, you did it yourself and you did neglect to send me a PM.

I`VE SAVED ALL THE PM`S...... I CAN SEND YOU COPIES...............
CHECK YOUR TRANSACTION STATS..... AND COMARE TO MINE...... YOU ARE THE ONE WHO IS NEW AT THIS AND HAVE NO BACKGROUND/REASON TO GIVE ADVICE......
You would have more success buying and selling by using your real name....... it gives people confidence......

The above two posts are a prime example of why taking a sale off board and handling it by direct Email or by phone, is the best. BOARD PMs are unreliable at best.
If you will remember the GOOD classified ads, back in the day, had an Email and a ph no. There was no such thing as posting on an ad and turning it into a chat thread.
The folks that are too paranoid about privacy, and to busy to take care of a transaction after it begins, need to stay out of the
internet buying/selling game. JMHO. LDS

I truly didn't know it mattered about what is posted. It always seemed sort of cheesy to jump on an item and post "I'll take I, it's mine, Back Off, etc." I never knew it mattered either way. If you want to sell it and I want to buy it perhaps we can make a deal otherwise no hard feelings.

Sometimes I need to ask a question about something I am not sure about. What's wrong with PM's? People are people and not all do business the same. I don't buy a lot of stuff and rarely sell so I guess I am just not as anal retentive about it as some are.

One thing's for sure the money is just as green whatever the preferred routine of exchange is.

You're right that money is money. But the degree of hoops one must jump through on varying methods of payments comes into play to me. I had a guy send a personal check for payment for a Les Baer pistol, I told him his check needed to clear, he even showed me proof that it indeed did clear his bank account, my money was not available for 9 days, it got ugly. Now we have counterfeit Postal MO's, bank cashiers checks, I will never go grab a MO, or cashiers check, I just don't need anything that badly.

Don't assume "I'll take it" means anything! The seller might not like me or want to sell to me or is working with someone else via PM, email, fax or Morse.
