buying a reamer - how to?

Looking to rebarrel a 40-XC in 6 x 47mm Lapua.

Hoping to shoot 70-105g bullets up to the rifling, not sure of rifling twist rate either.

Never bought a reamer before, need to understand what to look for in specs - what the lingo is etc.

thanks in advance

Tim

I would call Dave at PPG and tell him what you want and listen to him. I have purchased a few reamers from him and got exactly what I wanted. He is a sponsor here also.

Tim,Im sure Dave has done those reamers before,if you give him a call he'll email or fax you a reamer print,s) and you can decide what you want changed, neck dia.,cartridge length etc.)or you can tell him you want a match chamber with lapua brass, the neck dia you want and throat for the bullets your going to use.

Thanks to everyone who responded or messaged. All extremely helpful.

Should have mentioned that I have a 6mm XC Tikka that I'm very happy with. This rebarrel job was to allow me to try out the 6x47mm Lapua in a rifle that otherwise wasn't getting a lot of use - just curious about the cartridge.

Am definitely also planning to consult closely with my gunsmith, who is a whiz at this stuff. The post was to become knowledgeable enough to at least ask intelligent questions :)

thx again for all the info,

Tim
