Buyer for used brass

Gents,

I'm in the Fort Smith - Muskogee - Mc Alester Oklahoma area. The scrap yard I go to once a year or so won't take used brass.

Where do you offload your buckets of spent 22lr hulls, brass in calibers that you don't load for, and your multi-times reloaded brass, etc.

Probably not a real great market on this site for once fire PPU 30-06 brass, is there?

Open to suggestions and thanks for your thoughtful replies.

Hmmm, every scrap yard in my area welcomes yellow cartridge brass. Some sweep it with a magnet, and give a quick visual to make sure no live stuff mixed in. Make some phone calls to other scrap yards. Advisory...prices are down to $1.30 lb. due to tariff BS. I'm storing mine 'till prices are back up. Picked up a gallon of .223 this morning.

Curious, how much does the gallon bucket of brass weigh?

I can tell you that a 5 gallon bucket filled flush to the top with mixed pistol and rifle brass is 62-63 pounds average of brass. Buckets weigh two pounds.

The weight of brass in a 5 gallon bucket will vary based on content. A bucket of 9mm brass weighs 70+ pounds. A bucket of 22LR will weigh closer to 45 pounds.

To get the most value from cartridge brass at the salvage level you need to remove all the steel as well as any aluminum. Some may accept mixed content at a slightly lower rate, others will tell you that mixed product scraps as tin (lowest salvage value). Also, some salvage operations want only yellow brass while others will accept the nickel plate mixed with the yellow brass. If you are not familiar with a particular salvage operation I would call and find out what the specific policies are before bringing your brass down to sell.

Gents and Riflewoman,

Thanks for your replies.

Georgia arms has a brass credit program. Has anyone used them or do you all roll your own even for handguns?

Thanks again

Can't help you there. But in Ocala Fl we had amassed about 27 5 gallon buckets of sorted brass. Then one of the local buyers told us he would sort and offered us 1.25 a lb and he came to the range and picked it up. Couple of guys moaned about him being cheap, and I told them to load the things in a truck and drive them to his business....moaning stopped and we made a nice bundle of found money. But, that doesn't help you a bit I'm thinking. I'd do as suggested and shop around. Take a little off the going rate and the interest in your brass will grow.
