Buy Prvi Partisan ammo or neck up Lapua 260 to get 7mm-08 brass?

Still can't find 7mm-08 brass anywhere.

The closest thing I've been able to find is Lapua 260 brass, or some Prvi loaded ammo.

So I can buy the Lapua 260, neck up and fire form. Eventually the length will match up.

Or I can buy the loaded Prvi ammo, shoot it and have the brass.

Thoughts?

Why not neck down .308,that is the easiest in my book and measure the neck thickness. With commercial brass it usually is just neck it down and you are pretty much good to go.Military brass is thicker slightly so watch the neck thickness, you may have to turn the necks to clean up and even the neck out.

mattri,

I ran to the same thing, I got the Prvi, it is great brass, go for it.

Thanks for the reply.

I just got a line on some Remington brass, 200 rounds for about $100.

So do I

1) Buy the Lapua brass @ $1/round, form and fire, betting on Lapua's reputation for accuracy.

2) Buy the Prvi ammo @ $1/round, fire and keep the brass.

3) Buy the Rem brass @ $.50/round and hope that it is decent stuff?

I've never used Rem brass before, always used Win or Lapua.

Cost is not as big an issue as accuracy, that being said I have found sorted and prepped Win brass to be as accurate as Lapua. That being the case I don't want to spend the money on the Lapua or Prvi when case prep with the Rem brass would have netted similar results. I'm also concerned about case life, I've had great success with Win and Lapua, no experience with Prvi or Remington.

Damn this shortage.

Mattri,
I don 't shoot a 7mm-08 so I have no personal knowledge about it's issues in terms of brass life. But it strikes me that in your question posed for comment, you might want to consider what your purpose is for loading the brass in question - i.e. general shooting, target shooting in search of best accuracy, or plain old hunting. That alone would give me some direction in choosing which brass to pursue. I shoot strictly for best accuracy in target shooting. That means that I would mostly like want to use Lapua because of it's well established reliability and known consistency in production. Now since another poster suggested finding some .308 brass, you have alternatives such as Federal, Winchester, Remington, Norma, and even Lake City Match from years past. Prvi Partizan (as you probably know) is Serbian and made originally for the Serbian Military. Now I've used PP in my .223 Benchgun and found it to be very reliable and produces goods results. Never tried it in .308 because there I use either Lapua, Lake City Match, Norma or even Federal. I'm not all that wild about Remington or Winchester for best accuracy shooting. Now availability is definitely an issue, but if your 7mm-08 likes to "eat brass", then perhaps the issue is moot and I'd be using the less expensive stuff since the more expensive is harder to get.

Just some ideas for you to consider in reaching your goals. In any case, have fun whichever way you decide to go.

I have used remmy brass for years and by sorting you can cull the bad ones for break in and use the rest for shooting.I would go that way or use once fired lc brass and fireform it.

I've necked down 308 to 7mm-08 and necked up .243 too. Of the various brands of .308 brass I tried, had least problems with neck thickness after just resizing. For example, resized Federal brass after firing it in my 7mm-08, you could not insert a 7mm bullet in it. Could insert a 7mm bullet in a fired Remington piece of 308 that I had resized to 7mm-08. In other words, you may need to turn necks of .308 thats been resized to .308.

Recently, I resized some .243 Remington to 7mm-08 and shot some of it just yesterday with good results.
