Buy Berger Bullets

I'm trying to get started in F-TR and now have bought a rifle. I was told by the seller and my experienced advisor to use the .308 200.20X bullets. I have searched everywhere with no luck.

Does anyone have any intel on when these bullets will become available again? Or should I go with another brand and wait?

Yup, this better not be news to you since it has always been challenging to get match bullets but the last four or five years have been especially difficult.

Are you planning to shoot Mid Range matches or Long Range matches?

If you can limit the distance to say 600 yards, it really opens the bullet choices that can compete in a 308 F-T/R rig.

That way, you can get rolling while gaining experience and hunting for those better bullets.

Eventually, you will find some of those 200.20X but if you are willing to shoot 300 to 600 yards in the interim, you can find bullets that will work now.

I intend to shoot mid range at first but I have 2 ea. thousand yard ranges within 200 miles. I am well stocked with 168 MKs but not the newer version. Sierra and Hornady seem to have 200s available so I intend to try them too. All of them are insane expensive!

Yes, sorry. You didn't pick a cheap hobby, but all of us here on the forum feel it is rewarding.

Those 168 SMK will give you a good start for 600 yards while you gain experience and search for those other long range match bullets.

You will have much to master. Start at 300 to build fundamentals and get range flags if you don't already have them. Work your way up to a good group and waterline at 300 then out to 600.

Hopefully, a batch of 200.20X or the other good ones like @LVLAaron mentioned will show up by the time you are ready for 1000.

Getting a 308 on paper at 1k is one thing, being competitive is another. Be patient and don't give up.

The 175 match king is also a very good bullet. Unlikely to win against pros using the berger bullets mentioned but they wont let you down. They'll increase your wind reading ability :)
I have some of those 175s on hand as well. Another thing hard to find is the Lapua Palma brass with the small rifle primer pockets. But I have buckets full of once fired .308 brass. I'm afraid I will have to make that stuff work for me.

Try the 175 Sierra for long range.

Better get used to that. Starting to feel like golf would be cheaper!

If you can find some Sierra 169gr matchings they’ll make it to 1000 ok they were redesigned for 1000yd shooting they’ll get you going until you find Bergers but for sure don’t go further than 600 with the 168s

Might offer a caution on the Hornady 195gr ELD-Match . I have a 2013 F-TR Chamber on my TR Rifle , and when the 220.20x got non-existent , I thought okay ; and bought three boxes of the Hornady 195's . When I did some checking , I found that the Base of the bullet was sitting at the base of the shoulder of the Brass . Some may not think this to be a issue , but I personally won't load any bullet that deep in the case . I might add that I very seldom seat more than a maximum .020 off touch .

I did find a alternative for thousand yard practice , and that is the Sierra 190gr SMK , HPBT , #2210 . Haven't tried them yet , but they do meet my parameters regarding seating depths .
