Butt plate for old br stock

do any of y’all know if someone makes a plate or something that goes on the bottom of an old style short range br stock where the stock meets the rear bag. My stock is round on the bottom and I would like to add something that will make it flat for riding the bag better. I’m pretty sure it’s an old Mcmillan 90’s era. Any help is appreciated. Bryant

You could mill it but i wouldnt. A round bottom is good on a mcmillan short range stock. You wont get any more stability or whatever youre after. Just make sure your bag has the correct stitch spacing and sand fill to make sure the stock doesnt hit the stitching (bad vertical)

A flat on the bottom of the butt can often give lots of vertical, especially if it rides on the flat between the bag ears. -Al

Why might we suppose those 3 stitch bag ears are spaced exactly the width of the keel???

There's more to it than the widths matching. As the gun recoils, the horizontal angle of the butt and the bag often changes dramatically.

Not saying it can't work 'cuz I've seen it work well. I've also seen it work badly.

Take it for what it's worth or disregard as you choose. -Al

Because somebody bought the wrong bag and dont know any better. If the stock hits the stitches even with severe settling its gonna be big groups

Really?? So, a few years back when virtually every BR stock went to a flat keel, usually 1/2”, everybody started offering bags with ears 1/2” wide.......kind of a surprising coincidence wouldn’t you say ?

Some will never know the consequence, but those of us who have changed stocks or borrowed rifles in a match before and not noticed the stock hitting the stitching know what that vertical looks like. Most will never see it and all i can do is offer advice. If you cant see vertical from using heavy sand then riding on the stitches may not appear on target to you either. Not saying thats you im just saying its a minute detail that top shooters avoid.

With a long Range Stock is this true. My stock rides on flat of the rear bag. Wheeler lrbr stock with Edgewood’s bag. Ear spacing matches bottom of stock width. Idk.

Also, long range stocks generally have considerably less bottom butt angle than conventional BR stocks.

Dusty, with all due respect, maybe you have to really cut back on the “ top shooter” references like this is a secret club and you're the doorman.
Remember the not too distant past were you summoned up the same validity path and a fair number of them came out with opposite opinions.
Trust me, there are a fair number of them you don’t know.
I have heard this for years but never ever really got a definitive rational.
Vertical comes from many sources, tune, bedding, bad gun handling, bags too hard, bags too soft, etc.
Even a dumb guy like me can recognize it.
Truth be told, when stocks changed over and Edgewood first hit the mkt with proper bag spacing, I had 2 IBS HOF guys and one current world record holder tell me that was EXACTLY what to do.
Matter of fact, this year went to a Lenzi bag and frankly, I don’t think you can avoid stock bottoming unless you fill it hard as a rock.

Just bring that stock over, I'll clamp her down on the mill and you can tell me when to stop letting the sprinters fly.
