Bushings for Redding S Die

Am buying a Redding S FL sizing die. Had a question. They make a steel and a nitride coated titanium bushing for the die. Is the lower priced steel bushing ok to use, or should you invest in the higher priced titanium ones.

Depends on how much you load and how much you care about taking the time to remove the bushing to lube and clean it. I load a lot of the same caliber for precision and skipped both the steel and titanium bushings and bought a carbide bushing.

I used the Redding S Type bushing dies , the steel will work just as well. Are not neck turning , if not you may be disappointed in run-out . I went back to sizing with a full size standard die and competition shell holders .

It’s wise money to buy steel bushings for now and if you find yourself settling in on one size, buy that in carbide or TiN.

The only risk with this is the carbide bushings are the only ones I own that exactly match the size they claim to be. That said you’ll know immediately if the sized neck diameter is not the same.

I bought a couple of carbide bushings from Benchrite recently and I’m very impressed with the dimensional accuracy and smoothness.

Coated / carbide bushings don’t require lubrication, but since I full length size every time, I need to lube the bodies and it adds almost no effort to add and remove lube on the outside of the necks also.
