Bushing the Pin or a PT&G bolt?

This is a somewhat unusual question between the Gre-Tan firing pin, VS the PT&G new bolt witch one can get the pin work done ? 700 Rem short action.

I hear that the Gre-Tan "firing pin" work is about $90.00 total delivered.

I'm not sure what the price is on the PT&G bolt it seems to move somewhat .

Would really appreciate comments/opinions.

I'm not quite sure I understand your question but here goes: Gretan put a bushing in my bolt and turned my firing pin down and I believe it was around $75. I bought a PT&G bolt for another rifle and it cost me around $240 with all the parts. If nothing is wrong with your bolt other than the firing pin hole call Gretan and save the money for bullets. Hope this is what you were looking for.

+1 on having Gre Tan bush your bolt and turn down the pin to fit. If you have a J lock you may look into getting one of his firing pin assemblies installed as well. Gregs work is top notch and you will not be disappointed.

The PT&G bolt is a much higher quality item than the Remington. There are a couple of other features that can make the PTG bolt a bit more sensible. One is being able to order a larger diameter bolt the will fit your action better and take some of the slop out. The other is being able to customize the bolt handle for more clearance between the bolt and your scope. And then there is the option of a Sako or M16 ejector, fluting the bolt for lighter weight, and of course the choice of a smaller firing pin hole and firing pin assembly for small primers. My last few builds have PTG bolts, one was a cone face bolt for a single shot. My average price paid for a PTG bolt is $280 and the average sell price for the 700 bolts that were replaced is $160. That's a difference of $120 for the new bolt. All of my bolts were installed along with new barrels so any extra work to fit the bolt was already part of the job. With that said the PTG bolt is not a drop in, and must be fitted and headspaced properly.

This.

To just tighten firing pin/hole clearance, replacing the bolt isn't necessary. The PTG bolt is a beautiful thing, I have one. I've also had a couple firing pin holes bushed and if that's all your gun needs, it's a good solution and works just fine. Greg Tannel has a quick turnaround on this.
