Burris XTR II 8-40 opinions

I really like the features on this scope but it makes me nervous buying without ever even seeing one much less looking through it,,

I would be happy with Leupold VX III type glass and everything work as advertised,,is that too much to ask from this Burris scope,,I like the reticle and 70 MOA elevation adjustments and 1/8th clix,

I'd buy a Sightron SIII 10-50x60mm with 2 MOA reticle........

I read the reviews, "great for hunting on 8 power and can see my bullet holes at 1,000 yards through mirage....."

You can find a review of one by your's truly in the Long Range Hunter Forum. Good shooting.....James Mock

with the scope cranked to 40X can you see both upper and lower parts of the reticle ,,if so coupled with the 70 minutes on the knobs would do everything I need,,I like the Sightron 10-50 also and may get one but I need more than 50 minutes on the knob,,and I have never been able to see 1000 yard bullet holes through any optic,,splatter on white steel is another thing,,

One thing to consider on the Sightron 10-50X60 is that the eye piece does not utilize a lockring.

Everyone I've used I simply slid an O-ring over the eye piece then tightened up into it... Some required it , some did not.. You want to see something interesting take sight of a target at 100 yards on 50 power and wiggle the eye piece.

I bought that scope, and after I took it to the range to look through it at the 1000 yards target I returned it right back. Has many good features but what I didn't like was the fact the reticle becomes very large at max magnification (very hard to spot your own shot or see the target) and when magnifying past 30ish the picture is not so clear any longer. I know that what ultimately made me determine to send it back was the fact I compared it with my other scope I own NF Competition and they are not in the same class whatsoever.

I have that scope and really like it. 350 rds thru it and the gun absolutely no problems. It returns to zero in my opinion perfectly. The glass in it daylight normal conditions is as good as my buddies $2200 NF. Have not tried them both in lowlight and would honestly expect the nf to probably be a Little better then the burris. I mean it should it is a $1000.00 more. I was shooting it out to 1000yd on 26 power to use the reticle for holdover when I first got it. Now I dial for elevation and hold for wind seems to work pretty good. Been shooting with a very experienced shooter spotting and he calls my wind for me and I adjust with the reticle. Seems to work pretty good that way. My spotter is a NF guy and he seems to be pretty impressed with my burris to where he is actually thinking about putting one on his next build and he can pretty much has the means of buying whatever he desires that has to say something. I would highly recommend it with the extra $1000 you can put your name on the waiting list for one of them sweet joypod rest. I had the same reservations about spending that much with out looking or playing with it. I have seen where guys have said the turrets on burris,s seem mushy mine are very firm and tight.
