Bumps Causing Classifieds to Lose Usefulness?

I buy and sell quite a bit here for my personal use only. I have noticed that I get hit up by guys who lowball me who have zero posts other than in the classifieds. I will only give a smoking deal to shooter members and not traders, pawn shop guys ebayers or who ever they truly are. Many of these guys monitor the classifieds and snatch up good deals that should really go to real members imo.
If I ran this forum I would require access to the classifieds only if you are an active poster. My 2 cents.

I feel that this is correct. There are people that ONLY use the classifieds.

If you are the seller, after a couple of bumps and no sale, it may be a clue that your price is too high.

Or the right person hasn't seen it yet. My last couple rifles were listed for several weeks and over a month. I wasn't dropping the prices since I felt they were more than fair. They eventually sold. Maybe not being bumped every day, but every other or every third. I actually believe the most recent one sold to someone who had signed up just to buy it. You never know.

If you are a classifieds leach then spending 30 bucks a year for a silver badge, or whatever the cost, is a minimal expense.

I just look at the original posted date and open only today's or one-day old posts, IF the item interests me.

Vague titles are more nuisance than bumping IMO... "scope", "for sale", or (my favorite) "My stuff!"

What bothers me are the ads that have been bumped for years . There are some that are over 3 years old and still bumping.

O.K, I shouldn't complain without offering a solution. Mine would be similar to the search function which does not seem to work well.

Modifying the Filter function in the forum to allow searches for new posts, posts without an update, or new posts within a time period, similar to the time limits on the Last Updated filter. This would greatly reduce the bumped posts.

when you sell something and it's sold, delete the add completely 1000's of old adds need deleting clean it up some. I know it's good to know prices but cleaning it up is also good jmho, I delete my add if selling or looking

Several adds say SOLD in the thread but not on the Header of Topic this morning. Agree with above, if you can delete the add or at least Mark it Sold on header would be good.

Spot on. Half the time you don't know if they're selling or wanting and you have to open the thread to find out. As a seasoned shopper, I'm seeing this more and more on multiple sites. A waste of time and I ignore the listings.

I like that some of the other forums limit it to 1 bump every few days, and some only allow 1 per front page.

It is very annoying when 1 person has 8 different and take up half the front page every few days when they bump them all.

And even more annoying when they are all just 1 type of item like stocks or scopes, so instead of combining into 1 post they take up half the front page again

If you are trying to find something particular, advanced search is your friend
