Bulls Eye camera system for long range shooting

i'm to the point where i believe i need a camera system for long range practice. the only one i can find is the Bulls Eye system. anyone have any experience/ opinion on it?

Back when I watched Snipers Hide, a guy came up with a home made system, on the cheap. He bought some components and put it together for a few hundred. I guess you could check the archives or google the concept.

What is your reasoning for preferring to target cam over the bullseye. I have used the bullseye before and it has worked very well I was wondering what the differences are between them.

I have a bullseye and it is awesome. I have it connected to my smart phone so I don't need to haul a laptop out there. It allows me to do ladder tests at 800+ yards on the farm and know exactly which bullet hole is what powder charge. Best 500 bucks spent so far in my years of shooting.

+1 Couldn't agree more.

I just received my Bullseye AmmoCam Long Range Edition today.....hopefully will get out to the range this weekend and try it out.

If you wanted to make your own, you would need a tripod, webcam, router with antennas, a battery pack to power them with.....and on the shooting end, a long range antenna (I used a Hawkings) and a laptop. Worked pretty well but I was always worried about shooting the equipment downrange (actually I was worried about other people shooting it). You can buy a 2-year downrange warranty with the Bullseye setup......if you or anyone else shoots it, they replace it free.

Three of us purchased this one: http://bullseyecamera.com/bcs_tripodlre.html We had a battery with a switch that would not work and the company promptly shipped us another battery. We are losing signal at 600 yards using a laptop. It is supposed to work at that distance with a laptop. It works fine at 300 yards. We are a little bummed right now as 600 yards is where we need to use it. A spotting scope works fine at 300 yards. It remains to be seen how much additional money will need to be spent in order to make the system do what it was advertised to do.

Not sure if bullseye system has changed in the last year but I ordered the long range version and could not get reliably past 550-600 yards. Their customer service was great, they immediately sent out a replacement unit but the results were the same. All testing was in the desert and a flat/clear path from shooting position to target. I eventually got it to work at 1000 by connecting and slowly driving away to make sure the connection was maintained. The downfall was the quality of the camera and lack of resolution the camera provided from such a short distance to target. It definitely needed a white background to resolve any bullet holes which for me defeated the purpose because I can see impacts on my steel targets from 1000 when they are painted white. I bought it hoping I could see impacts on a 1000 yd fclass target but the resolution was poor and nothing more than an ip camera.

To the OP there are some systems that use a quality camera/lens with excellent resolution but they are a lot more expensive! If you dig around there are some forum members that built their own system using a handycam and wiring some sort of video transmit/receive system for a lot less.
Ultimately the best thing for long range testing is to recruit a good friend to pull the target for you or mark a group with spotters or take pics of it in the pits for feedback.

For you guys having problems seeing the bullets on the target take a bunch of cardboard and staple it to a big piece of plywood. Then get some big pieces of paper and staple it to the cardboard. Bullet holes are easy to see this way. Just replace the shot up paper with a new piece and your good to go again. I have the long range version and the wifi dealy bob, technical term, for the cell phone. Has worked great out to 950 which is the farthest Ive tried it so far.

I like my Bullseye camera. I had trouble with reception on a narrow tree lined lane past 300 yds. They sent me a directional antenna and that did the trick. Nice people they aren't scared to answer the phone.

Just do a search on FPV cameras for remote contol quads and planes, you can build a whole set up pretty cheap.

RC transmitters & receivers (for remote control planes, drones, etc.) are very inexpensive and will give signals out to 1-mile or so without high-gain antenna's. With high-gain antenna's they can reach miles.
Transmitters are S-video Out, that basically will work with almost any type video camera.
Receivers are S-video In, that basically will work with almost any monitor, tv, laptop, or device with a video inputs.

Thanks for the tip, Donovan. I'm currently spec'ing out a system that will do much farther than I need and will cost under $200.

Hobby King's stuff is amazing. :)
