Built a 7.62x39 bolt gun on an mini mauser for shooting surplus ammo out of using a 308 bore. Went with 308 as on measuring rounds we pulled found that only the last 5-8 thousandths were larger than 308. Almost like a skirt. That gun shoots great to this day with steel cased ammo or whatever else we feel like putting in it. We put a long 1 degree throat in it as well when ordering the reamer. Although I was always taught that the AK series of rifles had a long throat for that reason. This was however from an instructor at Aberdeen that I didn't hold in to high regard. Will pull a few soviet rounds over seas here today if I can get my hands on a few.

Well I pulled the trigger...so to speak. ought a reamer from PT&G. Dave, the owner, was hugely enthusiastic. He rattled of the dimensions of the "wildcat reamer" and said he had made many of them and they shot bug holes at 100. Not looking for that kind of bench shooter performance but I expect 1MOA from 308 fodder. Dave also offered that that particular reamer seems to be almost impossible for other Makers to properly produce. He seems to get a lot of reamer trouble-shooting work.

The barrel contour will me modified to make it thicker in every section. The gas block and front sight will be reamed to accept the bigger barrel. I will add 2 inches to the length for a 18 inch barrel.

That isn't all of it but you have the gist. It will be changed enuf to probably get me chewed out for continuing to call it a VZ58. Did I mention the Timney trigger? Just kidding. But the stock trigger will be lightened significantly.
