bullets for accuracy international at

I'm new here and I just purchased my first accuracy international at in 308 with a 24 inch barrel. My question is what are the best factory ammo that these guns like, and also the best hand loads they like?

Thanks!

They shoot a wide variety of ammo well, it is no different than any other precision rifle. But a good place to start is Federal Gold Medal.

Federal GMM, the 168SMK works well to 600 or so.

Black hills loads with several very good target bullets for long range and makes good ammo

Southwest Ammo loads some reall quality match loads.

Of course, this thread cannot be complete without listing Brian Litz’s associated ABM Ammo ;D, their .308 rounds are here:

They are the most expensive but probably the best factory ammo. Would suggest you keep away from Southwest Ammo unless you are looking for some frustration...

I don't know your experience, I don't use them (or pretty much any factory ammo) but I was coaching a new shooters clinic a couple of yrs ago and a guy shooting southwest was holding 10 ring vertical at 600 on an F class target. That's pretty good with factory ammo in my book

It’s a total hit and miss with them. I’ve personally had bad experience a few years ago but don’t take my word for it just go to the Hide and read the thread that is dedicated to them – Lots of people waiting forever and more than totally frustrated.

It’s under S4 Equipment page under “SW Ammo update thread” – there are 9 pages to suffer through.... :o

I'll pass on that thread, and I'll put Southwest Ammo on my not this week list.

I am currently shooting a 16 1/2" factory barreled Remington700 SPS Tactical with the heavy contoured 1:10, and its in the AICS chassis and I am getting GREAT results with the 178gr. AMAX at 600 yrds. Its crazy how slow its going but shoots better than the much faster 168g and just as good or better than the 175 SMK in my gun. Using Varget and CCI #200 primers. Shot 5 for 5 on the 5" gong at at 600yrds at a local BR match the other week. Nothing compared to those guys but pretty good for a short 308. The round after that I only hit 3 out of 5 on the 5".
Also have had great results with the 175 SMK. Wish it was the real AI though!

What is your magazine length? If you are using mags that can handle 2.950" I would run the ABM Ammo 185 Target Juggs, if you are using the smaller mags, I would run the 185 OTM Juggs. Hornady doesn't come close to Berger in this category. The 178 Amax has a G7 BC of 0.240, but that bullet is also being discontinued as far as I know. This is vs the 185 Juggs at 0.284 (nearly 17% increase in BC vs amax). Even if you decided to go with the Berger 175 offerings from ABM Ammo its still 9% increase in BC over the 178 Amax.
