bullets and es.

I have a .284 that I just had re barreled. I've always used 180 hybrids in the past with Krieger barrels. My Smith wanted me to try a bartlin so I did. But to my surprise the hybrids would shoot really well but the es was 25 _35 no matter what I did neck tension more less seating depth even changed powders (4831sc ) was go to. Nothing I did made it better still 25_35. Even tried 3 different primers. So I switched to 183 mk and everything fell into place thus far spread right were I wanted 10_15 with 3 different seating depths. I'm liking the combination of this really well my load is 54.3 Rl 23 210m lapua brass. This is limited testing but we'll let Mr.42x42 tell me how it works!! Has anyone had this happen before? With different bullets barrels than you my be a custom to using? Thanks Jimmy

Thanks for your reply both are heads up accuracy wise high .1s to .3 @100 . Only test was 100yards and 3 shot groups. Could not get 180 to do any better than 25 fps on es . Most I know and read about run 2800_2860 with 284 . But I have had better luck at around ,2890 5 or so years ago I had a Krieger that shot a slue of 5 shot groups under 4" running at this speed with 4831sc and hybrids at 1000yds. But it's hard on brass. In br it's more feasible than f class or other disciplines where u shoot more . I've only used the 183 once 4 three shot groups at 4 seating depths just to see if it's was bullet. .003 otl was .210" and just barely seeing marks was .280" es on all 4 groups was under 15 just swapped bullets and took .7 off charge.

I forgot to mention it's 30" 5r with vias brake bat 3'll Tooly Mbr stock nf 12_42 br hv contour. The barrel has 130 rounds on it. I still have.a lot more work to do but I feel I can move forward now.

Yes at around 100 I pressed the panic button when it wasn't getting any better. I have always been told 100_150 before they settle down. Mv at 54.3 of Rl 23 was averaging 2880 at 91° . It seems u can get more velocity from this powder than 4831sc (these newer lots anyway) of 4831sc.

The twist is 8.7.... I didn't mention that. I have run out time this week . I'm going to shoot this load Saturday at 1000. It can't do any worst than 42" and a 0 for score ...a dq I could make excuses...lol.

I havent run my accuracy load of 52.9 of RL-23 over a chrony yet, but during testing 53.8 yielded an average od 2825. 9 rounds had an ES 0f 18. My Krieger 8.5 twist seems to run a little slower than most. My 4831sc load with the 180’s has similer ES’s than what youre describing but the 183’s that I tested weren't much different. Good luck, E

Thanks e67 : next week when I get a break from work I'm going to run a 400 yrd ladder and do testing with these 183 mks. This bullet is new for me I only have fired it 12 times not enough to tell anything yet. But it's the only load I have yet for Sat. Normally the hybrids r easy to get going with 4831sc in284 but this threw me a curve ball..... I'm using a labradar. Jimmy
