Bullet velocity versus barrel life

Hello Everyone


A few days ago I have become a happy owner of AI MKII rebarreled to .284 Win caliber.

Regarding to QuickLoad calculation I can expect Vo = 890m/s.
My goal is to extend barrel life and be still competetive on long range distances.

Can You please recomend a resonable Vo for 162 gr A-Max bullet ...

I've always been told that, with a given case, it was Pressure, not Velocity, that accelerates barrel wear.

You might look at the powder that gives you an acceptable velocity with the least pressure.

All 4 of my 284's are most accurate with the 162 AMax jammed and going between 2950-3025fps. The go to powder is H4831sc. Just pulled my one barrel with 2011 rounds on it due to a few off call hits at 1k; that barrel only saw H4831sc for its entire run.
