Bullet stuck in bullet seater.

Well I just got my Lymen Reloading kit. So far I’ve only made about 20 bullets. One little problem I have been having is the bullet getting stuck in the bullet seating die. If I seat the bullet and try to make it a few thousands shorter some times it will pull the bullet back out of the case. A few times it pulled out when first trying to seat the bullet.

After thinking about it, I remembered that maybe there was the case lube on the inside of the neck.

I was using brand new Remington brass, RCBS dies and Nosler bullets.

I did size the brass before trying to seat the bullet.

Any tips on making small adjustments to the length of the bullet?

Hmmm?, what ever bullet your using must be lucky enough to fit the the seat plug just right! :D
It's atypical of new RCBS seater stems to need just a little polishing/clean up of the very end of the plug..Of the bullets you did seat, is there a "ring" mark left on the bullet?

Something is wrong. Case lube on the inside of the neck is not a great idea because it can make the powder stick to it. I use graphite on the neck ID to avoid this, but it is still a lubricant. Can you slide a bullet into the neck by hand? If so, the neck is too large, and the problem is with the sizing die. If that is not the issue then there is a problem with the seater die. Take it apart and look at the bullet seating ring/cone to see why it is grabbing the bullet.

How far into the neck are you seating the bullet? Just hold a bullet beside a case that is loaded with a bullet to eyeball it. Even if you are only 1/10 of an inch into the neck it should not pull out.

id say your necks are to thin for that die or bushing, something you can try is get some fine lapping compound and and put it on the bullet and try to polish or buff the seater. It might take out a rough spot or burr that is grabbing the bullet.

Yes there is a ring left on the bullet.

The bullets are seated a ton. I didnt measure but in between .3" and .4"

i RAN INTO THIS PROBLEM WITH A 300 WBY using hornady dies with 180 nosler ballistic tip . after checking into this I found that Hornady makes a special seater stem designed for the A-max bullets . I'd call RCBS and ask if they have a different seater stem for this problem . yes mine was leaving a ring around the bullet , and yes I use the powdered mica case neck lube . here is a link to the Hornady ones .
