Bullet seating

Does it create any problems lubeing the neck with graphite prior to seating bullet? The bullets seat much smoother , figure maybe they leave the case smoother also! JVON

I always lube the inside of my case necks with graphite and it seems that my bullets seat a lot easier than metal to metal. I am sure that more experienced reloaders on this site can offer a better scientific explanation than me as to the benefits of lubing your necks.

i'll use it when loading new brass and feel it does prevent the metal to metal contact that in time may lead to a "bonding" phenomenon. once fired brass will have a carbon-like coating, sometimes too much, that seems to do the same. a quick nylon brushing gets the big pieces out and leaves enough to allow smooth seating. ultrasonic cleaning probably gets all this carbon out of the neck and seems like your seating into new brass again. i have no experience with this cleaning process, so others might comment.

It's no problem to leave the "graphite" in the neck when seating. Whenever I use an expander mandrel on some of my brass, I always dip the necks into a small jar of Imperial Dry Neck Lube (aka: graphite) to assist in "metal to metal" contact that also helps reduce the friction.
