Bullet Sorting?

Has anyone noticed all the bullet sorting threads below this one?

Going !

Yep you found um;)

Spin them 30,000 rpm held in a collet fit in a Dremel tool. Put an amp meter in the power cord. The more out of balance bullets have, the more current the tool draws.
........
Or find a Vern Juenke machine that senses bullet jacket imperfections.
Bart, since the Juenke instruments are rare and expensive (as far as my budget is concerned), do you know of anyone who makes bullet spinning collets. It would seem like a useful and economical way to test bullets. (I already own a Dremel tool and amp meter.) I figured maybe Sinclair but didn't find anything like it on their website.

do you know of anyone who makes bullet spinning collets.
No.

But anyone who makes bullet forming dies has the skills, knowledge and shop tools to make them. They may well use the reamer that shapes the pointing die. Arvie Martin made the one used at Sierra.

OK, I just purchased a box or 500 Berger 6mm 105 Hybrids. How should I sort them - by weight, by bearing surface length, by both, does it matter?

Wayne! Where have you been. I have been sorting my bullets by weight and base to ogive. I then load my bullets all within the same base to ogive starting at the lightest weight going to the heaviest. I use the sinclair sorting tool for the base to ogive measurement. Please contact me if you have any questions.

The 06 did seem to jump around a tad, is that what you see?
A little. I'm going to push em a lil harder and see what happens. I still had good looking primers and no heavy bolt.
You know me I want all holes touching at maximum horse power.

While many measure components to the nth degree of precision and exact, one example decades ago challenges all that stuff.

Half dozen folks loaded new cases 210M primed with different powders and charge weights under a prototype lot of Sierra's then new 155 grain 30 caliber Palma bullet. 20 shot test groups at 1000 were made then assed. The most accurate load was selected.

A couple thousand or so rounds were loaded on two Dillon 1050 progressive machines. New Winchester cases with 45.3 grains (3/10ths spread) under the bullet (.003" max runout) was machine rest tested at 600 yards, 20 shots in 2.7 inches. That group was pictured in a fall 1991 issue of Handloader magazine.

Yes, drag and BC will vary.

Sierra shortened their 30 caliber 180 HPMK boattail to that of the 168 HPMK as a cost saving effort. They were often no longer supersonic through 1000 yards shot from 308's.

They made their 175 HPMK with the longer original boattail to ensure they stayed fast enough.

Ogive measurement is base of bullet to where it would touch lands and grooves.Hornady makes aluminum ones,Sinclair makes Steel ones, others also,I'd go w/Steel one.Don't know you would measure Ogive Diameter,Base to Ogive Lenght is whats important
