Bullet Selection for 600 yds

What is the general thoughts on bullet selection for 600 yd BR?
I have just received my Pac-Nor Barrel and my savage action is on its way back from SSS. My barrel is a 28" 8 twist and is throated for the 107 MK and chambered in a .272 nk standard BR. I have seen mention on other sites, that the 107 MK is not as good as some of the 80-90 gr flat base bullets at 600 yds. Just curious as to what some of your thoughts are on the subject.

The Sierra 107s shoot extremely well. Start with varget and find the load that produces 1/4 minute groups at 100 yds. Shoot that and never look back.

New Member here...Shooting 600 yards in "belly benchrest" I have a 240NMC with a 29" "satern cut rifled" barrel and shoot Tubb 115's..shoots very well..shot at Red Wing, Minn on 5-14-05 in rain, It was a 4 gun 600 yard match and relays 1 & 2 were the only relays fired due to the rain..fired 2 sighters & 20 for record and came away with a score of 200 w/ 18 X's..
two weeks earlier at Red Wing in a 4 gun 600 in the rain, sleet, snow & wind I fired 80 shots and came away with 797 w/ 48 X's..lost the 1 point to the wind 3 different times..6.5 x 284 couldn't stay with me..my son shot metalic and scope and came away with 796 w/40 some X's and he was shooting his 240NMC...
both guns are built on "MAK" tubegun kits..go to tubegun.net for more info...I am sold on the "tubegun"...

Hiya Wayne, good shooting. I've got a tubegun repeater on order and have your boy :) doing a barrel for it...can't wait, might have a chance at beating Deb.

I shoot a 6mm in NBRSA 600 yard. I have shot 105 Berger VLDs, 107 SMK, and 115 DTAC. They all shoot well enough to be competitive. Some of the lighter bullets would probably work as well. The key to 600 yard is extreme accuracy. High BC is OK but accuracy comes first. The BC is not nearly as important as it is at 1000 yards. Bottom line - try a few of each bullet you can get your hands on. Don't go wild and burn your barrel out. A couple of groups at 100 or 200 yards will tell the story. Then go with the one that your barrel likes the best.

All of us who have shot the Lapua Scenar 105s have been very impressed. They are extremely accurate and consistent. They seem to have a higher real-world BC than the SMK 107s, based on the elevation needed at 600 yards.

John Brewer recently tried some samples I sent him and he was impressed enough to order 500. As I predicted they shot well for John both in the lands and jumped. John reported vertical of less than 1/2" at 300 yards. Flatlander has said the Scenars are the most accurate bullet in that weight range he's tried.

Scenar OAL and bearing surface measurements were more consistent than the box of Berger 105s I recently received and measured. The Bergers were actually pretty good over all, but maybe one in a dozen was way off. I haven't rejected one Scenar in 250 bullets inspected and measured.
